Been doing R&D for Scania USA. Been following this DC9 (nine liter, five cylinder, diesel, approx 530lbs-ft of torque) around the southeast performing tweaks on a live unit. If you haven't been around a rock crusher while it's in operation it's fuckin' loud... and dusty. I stand in the engine compartment taking ECU readings near the loader while they're dropping in huge rocks. When they're dropping in rocks that weigh more than an E30 I don't think a hardhat is much protection.
The engine is over-powered for this application and it's the smallest one Scania offers in the Tier4 emissions variety. So there has been a campaign going on to test different exhaust reducers to try to keep emissions in compliance by increasing EGTs to help the diesel catalyst function properly. This is the second reducer I've installed on this engine. Like I said, R&D.
Being the only Dealer-Level Scania Tier4 emissions certified tech in the southeast means I have to travel a lot for work. This unit is in a Terex dump truck in North Charleston, South Carolina. Just got back a couple hours ago from performing warranty work.
I didn't get a picture of the truck, just google search Terex TA300 and you can see what it is. Here is my target:
The fuel/water separator venturi on the filter assembly was leaking so I had to replace it. There is no fucking wrench room in there. Open the lower access panel / skid plate:
Oil pan
The pictures I have you can't really see, there is too much shit in the way. What it boils down to is there are 6 fuel lines coming to and from the fuel filter assembly, four of which are underneath the housing. Also the camera doesn't like taking pictures of a subject that is backlit:
Getting sent to Germany for training in engine management systems by Heinzmann. These units are used on turbines in power plants and the gigantic diesel / natural gas / liquid propane engines on tanker ships. I'm going to be going all over the US from Texas east for work. I'll upload more pictures after I put my son to bed and unpack.
FYI this job fucking rocks.
