Fark, I was in the shop, on the phone, ordering parts and saw a pickup truck start to teeter forward, I dropped the phone, jumped up and hung on the rear corner of the bed screaming until one of the techs dropped the lift.

Disaster Averted.

I did however watch a customer drive her car into the pit at a Quick Stop oil change place in the parking lot of the shop I worked at.

Looks like the ratcheting spring lock that keeps the arms in position after the lift goes off the ground wasn't working, or was removed.

A Canadian soldier got a medal for holding up a 1000lb bomb which was not fully secured on the hardpoint and would've fell had he not been there. Yes it was live, yes it would've gone off and taken out everyone around him. Everyone else ran for cover but he was the only one intelligent enough to realize running was useless. Destroyed his back in the process but saved a lot of lives, it's impressive what a little motivation can do.
