I am more into stereo, running my own design 3 ways using scanspeak tweeters/woofers and vifa mids. Cabinets custom made and braced with 1" hdf by a cabinet maker, crossovers gone through many changes... amp is also diy dual mono .

You can kind of see them in this picture, I know placement sucks.

For HT it's 42" plasma, denon 5.1dts and older polk rt55i 2.5way front and cs400i center.. nothing big.

well, we all appreciate quality... Thats why we drive BMWs :)

I havent started building my home system, but Denon stuff has really impressed me in the past, so Im sure it will be in the considerations.

Ha, I like how your crossovers are on a board on top of the speaker. It reminds me of my own custom speakers, a set of ProAc 2.5 clones, which are based on a Scanspeak mid-woofer and tweeter. I have the crossovers just chilling on the floor. I also am running a dual mono DIY amp, an Aksa 100wpc unit.

DENON is the only way people (Harmon Kardon is a close 2ed)

Well I havent needed most of my gear in the last few years (G/F hates really loud music) so most of its still in the basement boxed up when I moved.

          What I am running now
TV: last of the Toshiba CRT 32 in flat screen
          Reciver: Denon: AVR 8500
          CD : Denon 650 5 disk changer
          DVD : cheapy JVC single
Main channels: Old MTX home audio 4-way's with 12in sub cones
Sub: is a 10in Klipsch (I dont rember the model its of 98-99 vintage)
          games PS2
All the good speakers are in the basement I have a full 5 channel set of mission Loud speakers the sub is the same as above for these.

The MTX's get too loud for her so I wont even hook up the full mission's and I sold my Denon amp I had for that set.

Actually Denon is one of the harder ones to use on the market, sound and features are very good!!! I posted as I wanted to see if any one was doing Blue ray / Hd-dvd etc as well I may be partnering up with a local shop for some work.. Some nice system for sure. Here is what I will be trimming out in the next month. I have a lot of gear but no projector or HD sources.

In my first day of working at my new job, I saw a system going in a $1.7mil house that makes all of this stuff look like a fucking Walkman. :D

And I see Tyler knows what's up. People can rip on "Driven" all they want, but that was a fucking AWESOME movie.

Not sure what level Denon ($$$ range) peeps are talking about, but the only way I see to go after a 777es is to go B & K. ~$1500 is what I plan to spend next go around, and for that I think I can pull a used AVR507.

Did Denon get their reliability issues resolved from the early 90's? They were pimp, but you didn't want one if you were a meat-n-potatoes type guy.

Guess I'm just a 'made in japan' Sony ES or B&K type. And I hear all ES is Malaysia now. So just B&K, with a nod to see what Sunfire is built like these days, if it's still around . I hear Krell is just fancy Pioneer, but works/sounds good with Martin Logan electrostatics. Never spent any real time trying M-L's though - I went straight to Def Tech, and I haven't regretted it. They work really well with Sony ES, especially with a decent set of wires.

Onkyo still built like it was late '80's/early '90's?

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

If you have the cash, pass the denon, sony es, b&k, krell and get a couple of these bad boys. Plus Nelson Pass is one hell of a cool guy!

                        http://www.passlabs.com/products.htm just my 2 cents ;)

Oh boy. I am a huge Champ Car (previously CART) fan, and this movie is a disgrace to open wheel racing. It's about as cheesy and fake as you can get. Please explain how it is awesome to you? I don't mean to threadjack, but good God man-Driven is universally recognized as one of the worst movies ever!

Now back on topic-I have owned some Denon equipment in the past-nice stuff overall, but a bit overpriced and a bit quirky at times. The Sony ES line is now basically a joke-they have really lost their way. Then again, Sony in general has lost their way in everything! Back in the '80's-to mid '90's the ES line was top notch, but things have changed and from what I have seen I would never own any of their current ES offerings.

Since Martin Logan was brought up in this thread, a I helped a good friend of mine put together a surround system a few years ago consisting of M-L Aerius i mains, their top of the line center channel, a pair of B&W DS6 surrounds, and the grand daddy-a Martin Logan Descent subwoofer. It retails for about $3000, has 3 10" high excursion woofers with 400 watts of continuous power, and is beautiful to look at. This thing is TREMENDOUS-you can put on Saving Private Ryan and after about 10 minutes, the bass is so strong that you are actually nauseated at your stomach-it has that much bass output.
