Have you ever stolen anything before? I trust that we all have at one point or another but what was the craftiest stunt that you ever pulled off without getting caught or almost getting caught? Also, have you ever been caught shoplifting? Were you a kid or was this something that you did earlier in your adulthood?
There have been a few instances where I got away with price tag swapping as a teenager until I got nailed for sticking a 49 cent price tag on a $12 toy. (and this was before UPC barcodes were used in retail stores) When I got busted, they thretened that if I was ever in the store alone again, they would prosecute me.
And then later in life I would put more expensive items into cheaper priced boxes.. and got away with it for a while until I attempted it at my job in the retail store where I worked. I worked in a store that took employee theft very seriously.. to the point where you would get fired AND they would call the cops and have you put in jail. I guess it would stand the reason why a manager would have to supervise all employee transactions. So one day I decided to "smuggle" a couple of $50 nintendo games into the boxes of Atari 2600 cartridges that were on the $3.99 clearance table. The manager that supervised the transaction was somewhat of a "tech-head" and he knew that I was also, so he inquired as to why I was buying these cartridges. Stupidly, I said, "Well, I had planned on cracking the cartridges open to see if I can flash the rom chip inside of it to program it with something else." and he was like, "COOL! Lets see what these cartridges look like!" as he started to open the box.. long story short I was able to talk my way out of it and convince him that I really didn't want to deal with that right now.. even though I was close to crapping in my pants! :-P Anyhow, after that incident I was "scared straight" at least for a little while.
