Bandwidth Thread (56k safe - maybe.)

Does anyone even have 56k anymore? I see all the pic threads - and they say that...I crack up. I have been on Fiber for about 2 years now and loving it.

What's dial-up? Is that like when they used 3.5" floppy's?

I remember when I was younger, I would go on porn late at night on the computer and we had dial up. I was always afraid that my parents would wake up to the dial tone sound. With high speed, it is silent porn surfing now.

              LOL.

Broadband/cable since Nov. 2000. Last year the network provider upgraded to fiber optic to the house, then RJ45 from that point to my wireless router. Connection speed is anywhere from 1.5 to 2.1 Mbps on average.

My first modem was 300 baud...

To give you a idea, 56k is 56,000 baud. My first modem was 300. You could read the text as it came up on the screen.

We even had porn back then (lame text stories, and one or two images that would take hours to download)...

I have a deciated nasa/cia satellite the I use now - lots faster then fiber...

What do you work for? The NSA? Too bad the commercial sat service is not as fast as it should be. I had a customer I was working with back in the day, and he could not run a VPN and live stream music at the same time.

I am super happy with the fiber hook up I have!
