I understand that america's roots are the "Wild West", but maybe it is time for some of you to stop being scared. You will never need a gun in life if you are the least bit careful. If there were no guns and bullets readily available, there would be less if next to no "columbines."

Ju, I see the point you are trying to make and I wish I could agree with it, but I don't see it as even remotely feasible. I think its a naive thought to believe that taking out right to bear arms away will solve this nation's problems with violence. There is no single contributing factor here. It isn't the free ability to purchase a fire arm. It isn't the video games. It isn't the parenting. It is a combination of all these things, and more, and in some cases mental illness is even involved.

Look at it this way- If you were in an adverse situation and someone was about to hurt you or a member of your family.. Lets say some crazy guy decided to break into your house in the middle of the night and said that he wanted to rape your children. Would you rather wait for the police to come and stand by idly hoping that the guy is just kidding or would you be determined to whip out your 9mm and empty the clip on this fool?

Actually you can't shot the guy cause you live in DC ;) ,where only the crimanal can have a gun. And i like to have a gun around to use when needed, like to shot a snake, coyote, rabid animal's,and to protect myself and my family and neighbor's from crazy people out to do harm to us.

I don't have/own a gun, but I can see the forest thru the trees. You don't have to be an NRA member to see the obvious. I bet that 99.9% of the guns in the USA will never be used to kill, hurt, or maim another human. The .1% would kill you with a spoon if they could.

This is getting nowhere, but as info I LIVE IN A COUNTRY WHERE GUNS ARE BANNED.

Every day we have shootouts, muggers, drug dealers, terrorists and criminals in general have guns and shoot innocent people every day.

The guns confiscated range from soviets AK47's to handmade guns, YES YOU ANTI-GUN PEOPLE, HAND MADE!!!!!

Animals (criminals) react to fear, eat or be eaten, so if they know guns are all over the place they will not attack, that's the whole point of having armed guards in banks and other places that could be attacked.

Anyone saying that policemen have to control things, is just saying "Let's have the guy that's using the gun in uniform". But anyway, the means of controlling these people are the guns, even if the ones who operate them are policemen.

Here you can see a handmade gun, it carries a single 12 gage shell, fired at close range will destroy someone's head.

What you think and what is real are two different things and therein lies the problem. Like TJ said, naive. Gun violence in the entire state of Kansas is miniscule compared to gun violence in Kansas City, MO. (a major metro). Murder has more to do with the motivation than the weapon. If you are pissed off enough you will do it with a baseball bat.

Can you argue that gun violence doesnt exist in in countries that ban civillian firearms? Its already been stated Chile has a shooting or two.

Anything can be smuggled or stolen. Look at prohibition for a shining example of how well a ban works.

certainly. but niether banning all guns nor giving everyone one is the solution.

i'd rather work on people getting smarter and wiser, with more people reaching out than to making even more laws that change nothing about society or getting more 'safety' precautions to fight a problem, but not at the root cause

you can take nyquil to try to get rid of the effects of the sinus infection, or you could try attacking the bacteria that is making you sick. the world, but especially America at times is diseased. I love America, but we got some fucked up role models and families at times.

This was from the sniper shooting here back when I was in high school:

9:58 am: 25-year-old Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera is killed while vacuuming her Dodge Caravan at a Shell station in Kensington, Maryland.

That is 1 minute from my home. I eat across the street where the Caprice was parked, next to the hardware store I occasionally pickup things from, and yes gassed up at that exact same Shell station. Don't tell me that I should not be cautious and consider defending myself by any means neccessary when things like this happen so VERY close to home.

We need to make fist fighting cool again. If all of the music video people could steer the pop culture into thinking that carrying a gun makes you look like a wuss while fist fighting makes you a REAL man then people will stop shooting each other. No more drive-by shootings.. it will be a drive-by punching. The car creeps up on you, the guy jumps out and sucker punches you in the gut and then punches you in the back 20 more times and then gets back in the car and speeds away.

Oh, and during sniper time, I had a white van and NOBODY messed with me. Not even the cops.. I drove through a speed trap and the cop was about to turn his lights on and come after me.. he pulled half way out and saw my van and he ended up putting it in reverse and going back into his hideout.
