One thing that I have always wondered was why gas prices always ended in increments of nine-tenths? If the price of gas is $2.99 and 9/10, why not just round it up to $3.00? Does the industry think that they are fooling us by making the price 1/10 of a penny cheaper so that we will think that its 1 cent less? I mean if you rounded the price up to an even number, we are still going to pay it regardless of how much we hate the price.

When you look at gas prices do you think ok that place is charging 3.05 and 9/10 or just $3.05? Think about how many gallons of gas they sell each day. Now multiply that by 9/10 of a penny. When you are selling in such large quantities any little bit extra you can get without someone thinking about it can turn into a lot for you.sigpic

the 9/10 comes from the various taxes that are placed on gas by the state and the fed... it doesnt have anything to do with the gas company fooling you...e30sport.net

But as far as the origination of 9/10, there has to be something very significant about that. Even when I look up what various states charge for tax, none of the states are charging 9/10 of a penny.

Are you serious? I mean, this is common practice in all business. Take a look at the interest rate on your checking account, car loan, mortage, credit cards....I could go on.
And the last I looked, my sales tax locally was 8.85%....so you buy a dollars' worth of something...it's 9 cents.
Where are you hiding that you never noticed this before? Also, the gas thing isn't always .9 cents, you just never looked.
Are you for real? I'm not one to judge, but you bring up so many things that you find profound, but to the rest of us are commonplace - it's just odd how many times you do this. I still think you were held back in elementary school.
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
