The TRP is the only one that looks beefy enough to use as a hand weapon after you run outa ammo... ;)
Really though, I can't see myself needing a les Baer, Ed brown, or nighthawk ever. Too damn expensive and it looks like any ordinary 1911. If im going to spend that kinda money on hand gun, I'm more of an STI Executive kinda guy.IG: @Baye30

I wouldn't hesitate to carry it or use it in a situation that I depend on it. If you've had issues with jamming maybe you'd best not shoot at all, since all guns will jam eventually. Be that operator error, ammunition, weapon malfunction or other factor.sigpicComment

You make 1911's sound like a cheap antiquated design. I've ran hundreds of rounds through mine and my dad thousands through his, without noteworthy issues. The only times I did have issues were from cheap reloads or very cheap ammunition in general.

My MIL is a slight woman and hates guns (how she has made it in this family I dont know) but does know how to use them when push comes to shove. If she can shoot a 1911 with out limp wristing it by just picking one up, then I dont understand how ANYONE else does....
To be clear here, I have no issues with the reliability of 99% of the factory 1911's for carry. I just dont feel comfy with condition 1 carry, just something about that hammer thumbed back on a live chamber bugs me, even with the 2 mechanical safety's in line.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

I feel comfortable carrying my 1911 after working with it to the point that if it should have a malfunction, I am able to correct it quickly. That said, out of around 1000 rounds, I've only had 2 FTF issues attributed to the factory Colt mag, and 1 stovepipe that happened with WWB ammo. I don't use the factory mag and I don't carry WWB ammo.
If I gave up on every manufacturer or design of gun based on a couple of failure to feed issues I probably wouldn't have many options. I've had a Glock 27 go tits up on me with failure to eject, a Glock 22 that ejected casings right between my eyes, a Sig P229 that had a weak mag spring resulting in FTF, and a Ruger revolver that had a problem with free-wheeling when I bought it. These are all guns that arguably have the best reliability records on the market. I don't think that they were shitty guns, I understand that mechanical objects will fail eventually.

Good info on 1911's fellas!
Straw purchase question. I was curious, if I were to purchase a handgun for my fiancée as a Christmas as a gift. Would it be legal for her to carry this weapon and keep it as her own?
Seems like it would be but I don't know for sure and only info I find online is when a parent buys their under age a gun to shoot
It's no different then someone buying a gun private party, correct?
*she is old enough to buy one herself just curiousYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

^ I'm not too sure about what AZ's carry laws are and whether or not you have to register the firearm you have/want to carry. Just as a thought though, to stay in compliance you could possibly take her to the gun store and have her pick out/fill out all the paper work and do the background check with her info and pay for it yourself right there, assuming the store and laws are ok with that. Or you could just give her the money and take her to buy it. It might not be as much of a surprise but I'm assuming its something she really wants.
The real issue with straw purchasers are the ones who are paid to purchase guns because they know they can pass a background check and then turn around and sell them/hand them over to those who could not, and big surprise when those firearms all end up at crime scenes or south of the border.
A Straw purchase is more a term for when you are buying a firearm with the intent to give it to someone who can legally not possess or use a firearm, and I'm guessing your fiancé is on the straight and level ;)
On an unrelated note, is anyone here experienced or has a Matech rear BUIS? I was looking mine over tonight and I noticed a threaded hole that was empty, does anyone know if I'm missing a screw or something thats supposed to be there? The screw would go through the base of the sight and under the rail on the upper.
Here's a couple pics:

^ thanks man. Yeah I think my best option would just have her fill out the paperwork herself. She wouldn't be carrying it daily or at all for now but I wouldn't want her to have it on her and in a pull over situation and the cop asks her why she has a gun that's not on her name. I keep telling her I'm going to buy her, her own so thinking Christmas might be good
I figured it wouldn't be a straw purchase but rather be safe than sorry with touchy subject items. Calling a gun store might be best as well lol
And that hole looks like an added securing screw?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

^ I can't figure out what its for honestly. I looked up a bunch of pictures of them and not one has a screw in it so I feel a little better about it. Even my buddies issued M4 doesn't have the screw in it so I guess I won't be losing any sleep tonight<---Goodnight, sweet prince

You buy the weapon. When you give it to your G/F it becomes a private party transfer at that point. its not a straw purchase, if she is of age and can go buy it at retail her self. What you do with your gun when you leave that FFL is your business. You can hold the weapon for 1 year, 1 month, 1 week, 1 day. 1 hour, it does not matter, its not a straw so long as the buyer/recipient could have bought it them selves at retail.
I am about 99% sure AZ has no pistol transfer paper work requirements for private party transfers. And being AZ is a constitutional carry state she can carry it or any other weapon of yours if she wishes with no paper work necessaryOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

As much as I like the thought of buying it for her, she really should be the one making that decision. Hand fitment is a huge factor that shouldn't be overlooked, IMHO.Comment

Oh It wouldnt just be a whim purchase. She has shot plenty and has also held plenty so no problem there.. more so just narrowing down what I think will be bestYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment
