I would never walk out of a job, unless serious illegal activity was going on or I was forced to do something incredibly immoral, in which case I'd be going to court anyway. It proves nothing and only hurts you. Never, ever, ever burn ANY bridges. Even that weak little 2x4 that had termites can be your savior when all the other big sturdy bridges burn down. Sorry, that was gay.

I walked out of a job once. It was my first year in college and i was a barback. Worst job ever. I came in one day and left like 30 minutes later. Went back a week later for my check. No one ever said a word. Other than that, it's a 2 week notice then im gone. Always ask for a letter of reccomendation as well.

Bahahahahahahahahahaha you are full of shit. 30mins work, you walk out, and they pay you any money? Nigga please.

Oh, and as I understand it, if you'd stuck with being a barback until you'd been trained up on cocktails and flairing, you could easily be clearing over 1K a week during college, which, i'm guessing, is more than you make right now.

                Reasons you're wrong:

#1 - I got paid for work I had already done. I did not say I walked out on my first day there.

#2 - I make more money now than *most* bartenders. I work at the largest free standing group of hospitals in the US auditing scheduling accuracy. I get 5k a semester for tuition, the best insurance you can get, tons of paid time off PLUS - I don't smell like shit from working at a bar and I don't have to deal with fat chicks/depressing bar people. Very few bartenders make more than I do.

Houston is pretty bad ass in some ways. I'm 22 and I'm having a brand new house built for me. Where else can you do that?

I would like to know what "for me" exactly entails.

My bad, it sounded like you'd worked at that job for 30mins and expected pay for it. And I agree about the "no one said anything" bit. It takes a long while to get a team of 'tenders you'd actually work and party with. I worked 4 years with mine starting out as a barback / glassy, and now I'm top of the tree, and trying to find a team of my own. It's damned hard finding good help for this industry.

For me entails me and my girlfriend picked our lot - picked out house + everything that goes in it. Now it's being built. When it's done - my 2002 will have a new garage and I'll have to start paying for it.

FYI - My girlfriend works as a waitress at a strip club. I know how good the money is in "the industry". She easily makes 4x what I do.

                              humidity is a 110% deal breaker. ;)

I prefer older houses, I feel new houses lack style and quality craftsmanship.

it IS freaking expensive to live here though, grrrr. My rent is more than a mortgage for most of the rest of the country. Glad I am not in LA, SF, Sea, or NYC.
