some guy i used to work with bought one of those how-to gimicks on tv that tell you how to buy property by paying peoples back taxes or whatever. he read it, paid someone's taxes for $3800, and got the house some months later. turned around and sold it for $60k. made like ~$45k profit after real estate agent fees and everything. went out and bought his mom a newer 325xi, and had a 525whp camaro built for himself. fucking asshole.

That's true. Ever since I learned how to fix the E30 instrument cluster I have been on a mission to find them in the junkyard. The last one I bought, I paid $40 for it, fixed the gear and then sold it on Craigslist for $120. I guess it also helped that the unit had less than 150K on it.

Yeah I did web design for a while. I loath it, sooooo much work and it is super tedious. Most boring work ever.

Yeah, I've been hunting craigs list and the best deals I can find are busted up bmws that don't run for around $1k-$1.5

    Edit:

And the resell is less than half of what that price is doubled. So its not even worth my time.

I do a few things for some extra cash. Not a whole lot but its easy as hell.

First, I dumpster dive. Its really profitable.... Staples throws away the best shit ever. Some of the best scores I get are: empty ink, they don't recycle it like they should. Its worth a ton on ebay. Each 1/2 full garbage bag of it is worth $300-500. Software, I got two brand new box loads of norton AV, we ended up selling all of it for $600. I also just acquired a ton of peachtree accounting software. I haven't put it on ebay yet, but estimates are I will make another $500 or so.

This summer me and my buddies have gotten maybe $3k worth of shit, and maybe $1500 in resale. A lot of stuff we keep just because its a bitch to sell. Like office chairs, we just got a SUPER nice chair, brand new, $400 at staples with a 10 year warranty. I also got a brand new $300 filing cabinate that was discontinued, it weights like one fucking metric ton, so I just keep it in my room to put shit in.

Game places are good too. I recently got a brand new 360 DDR pad, couple ps2 controllers, memory cards etc. The best joke with this stuff is I go in the next day and sell it back to the store lol. Thats how I ended up paying for my brother bday present from game stop. I took all the crap they threw out a few weeks previously, turned it all back in, then bought him a wii game.

I also hit up salvage yards for pricey items. Windows switches are good! I just started doing this and its turned out to be pretty profitable. I got 4 window switches for $20 or so total. Ended up selling all of them for $195. The best part is its a pretty steady stream to get these items unlike dumpster diving where its just luck if you find anything.

    Edit:

On a side note, I wish I could flip cars. MN Blows though, everyone things their piece of shit e30 is worth like $8k. Its so hard to find a cheap car anywhere. Anything you do find is just luck. The market for cars here blows.

Joe, wtf did you even find cars here?

The one thing that used to irritate me was seeing a someone buying stupid stuff when they owed me money. A friend of mine borrowed $50 from me because he was in a crisis and promised to pay me back the next day. At the time I was a poor college student and I could barely pay my own bills but I figured that I could re-arrange some things to be paid later and I could help him. So I loaned him the $50 out of what little money I had and then for the next 2 weeks I am calling this guy and leaving messages and going over to his place in attempt to find him. Finally I am in his neighborhood one day and I discover that he bought 2 kegs of beer and was having a house party.

I went to go see about my money. He said, "Oh man.. sorry scotty.. I had your money the other day but I didn't see you so I didn't think you wanted it.
