I think YOU are missing the point of the question...would you or would you not serve if you were drafted? You explicitly said, "Nor did I ever state that I support the draft - in fact, I pointed out that it is inappropriate right now." proving that you don't support the draft, but you do support forcefully engaging in the protection of our country, which I completely agree with. However, judging by your arguments you disprove of me not supporting the draft, even though we agree with the same thing.

What you clearly missed, is that every day I support my country. You choose to differentiate the means in which one supports, which shows a clear ignorance. I can only support my country by being a man and fighting in a war...while we're at it lets just whip out our cocks and measure.
I may be a pawn, but at least I'm on the board.

While I may not support the draft at this time, that does not mean that, if it were law, I would ignore it. If conscription were the law, then I would have no choice but to support it until such time as it could be repealed. So, as in the original question, if there were a draft, I would abide by it, and I would expect (and demand) everyone of appropriate age to do the same. I would also expect (and demand) that those who do not support it do what they can to legally have it repealed. Not run and hide. I don't believe that many of the taxes we are subject to are legal, but that doesn't mean I don't pay them - I do what I can to get the law changed while I conform to the letter of the law.

If you could possibly get over your penis envy, we can continue this discussion. At no time have I said that you have to join the military to be a man. But to be a man, you do not shirk your responsibilities, and if there is a draft, that is one of your responsibilities. Your insistence on reducing this to comparisons of your genitals with others speaks volumes.

In other words, you're on one side of the debate. Don't come into this thread and act all high and mighty...it doesn't "all boil down" to one question. It's a hugely complicated, personal matter. It's not "simple".

I'll tell you what it "all boils down to". It all boils down to one thing: This is a personal choice which we are allowed to make. It's one of the things that makes the United States of America a great place to be; personal freedom, within reason. Whatever a person's reason for wanting to go to war, or not wanting to go fight for his country, it's his (or her) reason and that's that.
I disagree. You know my opinion.
You know what else? I think this whole thread is fucked up. I didn't realize until just now. A draft is quite a drastic measure to increase our forces for some MAJOR emergency operation. When your number gets pulled, you do have a choice.
It is a choice, yes. ... and I will guarantee you, if your number/name gets pulled, and you don't go; you'll be labelled as such for the rest of your life.
If you can live with that, fine. Like I said, you'll find your excuse.
Sure, it's a personal choice, but making the wrong choice is decidedly impersonal.

Maybe this is one of those questions that should be asked in those really quiet times when you're not plugged into the internet, working, or whatever.
Search deep. It has nothing to do with politics, money, or being a "pawn".
It's about you, and your values.

p.s. I'm not high and mighty. I'm there. I'm the one doing my damn best to make sure that someone else's son or daughter comes home in one piece.
So piss off; you don't even know the meaning of sacrifice and service.

Fuck no. If there was a war on our soil though I would fight to the death.

I personally have no problem serving my country if I was called up so YES I WOULD GO !! but say if you were called up under a draft you really do not have much to choose from either.

1- you go and do your duty
2- you get court marshalled and goto jail
3- you goto another counrty only to be extradited back to be court marshalled then goto jail

I have never been known for keeping quiet. Now is no exception. I will no doubt date myself but, I enlisted during Vietnam.

I hate war. I hate politics being "allowed" in the military. I hate the draft. I hate spilling our blood on someone else's f***ing soil.

What I hate more than all of that is the idea of a war on our soil. Before I add this next line bear in mind, I have an 18 old son in college and I would be scared sh1tless for him in any war or political f***ing conflict.

Net, net bottom line, my opinion is EVERYONE who enjoys the freedoms of this country should spend one year of active duty in the military, REGARDLESS.

It wont happen until it really hits the fan. At that point I would serve.

I considered going in after sept 11 but then I realized there wasnt a real war to fight.
                        Im now E30less.

I don't understand how someone could ignore their countries call after it's given us every opportunity to better ourselves. The United States may be far from perfect, but what the hell, ill take it anyways, as i don't see any other better alternative. To the vaginas/canadians that are to scared to protect their way of life, eat some Voltaire:

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it

That being said, fuck yes i would be there.

you're a fool. whatever the case, stick the topic. My example was simply a metaphor for those who feel they need to prove their manhood.

Go fight your war for someone who sits behind their marble desk, who knows it just might be me :hitler:

It would help if I wouldn't be shoved a M16/M4/AR-15 derivitative which doesn't fit me. Same for pistols. The M9 is fatter than a tree trunk.

                              Long guns: HK
Pistols: 1911 single stack, checkin' out those Sigs

Servicemen: Do they let you own "other" guns other than the standard "one size fits all" ^.^ AR15 series?

'Sides, I hear recruitment is down quite a bit, they're upping the "benefits" and lowering the recruitment requirements, which means to me, more douchebags get it. >.>

Draft dodgers should get sent to France to live with the other spineless buttfuckers.

If you live in the United States of America, and there is a draft, you participate. It's part of living here.

My uncle was drafted and served two years in Vietnam. He did not wish to be in the army, nor did he agree with the administrations actions. He still says that those were the shittiest two years of his life and he hated every second of it, but he did it, because that's how this country works.

Have some pride. I don't mean decorate your house with Americana and flags and shit, start watching NASCAR, or listening to country music... You don't need to sell your German cars and buy a Chevy or Ford... Just have some pride in the country you are choosing to live in.
