To me, it represents the complete embodiment of form and function in way that integrates design components of line, plane, mass, etc. It also embodies aerodynamic design ideologoies that were current at the time. Enough art talk.
This bike was built for East German sprinter Lothar Thoms, who was a phenomenal time triallist and pursuitist. In preparation for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Thoms had Cinelli conceive this bike. Cinelli Design Studio created a bike that was aero in every way, from the special Columbus Multi-Shape tubing with webbed braze panels (no - it is not Bondo).
The headset is invisible, and is an integrated synergy of headtube, fork, stem and a series of needle and roller bearings that are fixed when the stem is inserted and tightened - compressing the bearing races against the internal journals. Notice how the top tube is coplanar with the stem extension and flats of the handlebars. The extended bottom bracket shell forms a foil around the leading edge of the rear wheel - another aero advantage.
Cinelli produced a limited number of custom laser cycles under the Evoluzione concept - this bike is the only one made of this type. Cinelli Evoluzione Laser cycles are included in the permananet collection of NY Museum of Modern art, and Chicago's Museum of Contemporary art.

Ok guys...
Gas is serious business down here. There is no gas in Nashville right now. All the pumps have bags over them. I ran out on my way home yestesrday because I havent been able to fill up, and I couldnt find a gas station with any gas left. People were lined up for miles at the few stations that did have gas. Average wait was about an hour..
So yesterday I said fuck it. Ditched my car and road my bike everywhere. :) I rode back to it later on last night because my mom brought me the 5 gallon gas can she uses for the lawn mowers. lol
My needless to say, I'm parking my E30 for a few weeks...

so my new bike arrived from bikesdirect on thursday, i've been having such a blasty riding it i haven't posted up anything about it. there's been a few horror stories on bikeforums about crappy shipping and damaged goods. here's my pics and thoughts about it:
box came perfectly from texas via ups
packaged very nicely and whatnot
everything came as expected
bike completed
being that this was the first bike i've ever put together, it was pretty much straightforward. put the seatpost in the tube, stem and handlebars to the fork, pedals on the cranks and slap on the brakes. the brakes gave me the hardest time because i had never installed them before, so i actually took it a shop and had them show me. i also had to get the wheels trued, the rear was severely out of true and was barely rideable, but the front was only slightly out of true
the seatpost, stem and handlebars are made out of cheap metal, but when riding i don't really feel it nor mind it, i actually really like my handlebars, i didn't at first.
i have no comments on the stock saddle, as i removed it instantly and installed a selle italia flite and have no gripes about it whatsoever.
gearing is wonderful at 46/16. i actually outsprinted my friend on his iro with 48/16 gearing and isn't too bad up hills.
i've put about 25 miles on it and already had my first flat, no biggy. the geometry is so nice, very comfortable and forgiving unlike my old gitane which felt like it wanted to turn in every direction.
the paint is pretty thin, it'll scratch if you look at it funny.
the pedals/cages/straps are shit, i pulled off the cages and straps as soon as i looked at them, being that it's a freewheel, i don't mind. i have a set of mks pedals on my old bike that i'll throw on and ive got some soma cages and straps on the way.
overall, i'm very happy with this bike, for 330 i couldn't ask for more and pretty much everybody who's ridden it has loved it from the getgo. i plan on converting it in a couple of weeks and i know i'll love it. so for a sub $400 bike, it's a 100% go from me.

I bought some handlebar tape but it won't stick to the handlebars... am I missing something or did I just get really old tape that lost it's stickiness?
