Had another night ride last night, but I didn't really get any pics because there was only 4 of us. But I'm stoked because I've got skidding down pat, and I can even turn them pretty well, and get some pretty good corner slides going. I'm trying to teach myself the "off-the-back" dismount, but I'm still scared of racking my nuts on the tire.

Yeah we had a critical mass this past weekend. I've been in denver for a few days tho so I missed it. I'm sitting in an airport right now so excuse the grammar. I'm on my blackberry.
Josh - rear cogs get harder to pedal the lower the number. Chainrings are the opposite. Your bike has a 48t like mine, so a 17 or 18 is perfect. I ride a 18 only because there is a lot of hills in nashville. You won't have any problems popping around on the seat. If you're popping up and down your cadence and stroke is wack.. No homo.

my 20" got stolen from work last night. i'm pretty pissed. it was parked in the woodshed/dumpster enclosure behind the restaurant with a few other bikes when i left last night around 1am. the guys that started this morning did not see it when they got there at 9. fuck. i've been parking my bike here for over a year now when i got to work, it is enclosed, attached directly to the kitchen, and an out if sight location. either someone went in just for my bike, or some drunk asshole was looking for an easier way home than walking and stole my shit. bike thieves should have their hands cut off, i have moved my maglight from the trunk to the front seat in case i see someone with my ride. it is a small town and i know a lot of people...

Just went up to my local elementary school b-ball courts and forced myself to learn how to skid every time... Mission accomplished- but I had to sacrifice my left elbow and left knee. hahaha WORTH IT!!!!
Oh, and now I need a new rear tire... fuck... I was riding look clipins for a while and I just switched back today to the MKS's. Such a huge difference. FIXED GEARS FO LIFE.Comment

Dude, you should have seen the inside of my thigh right above my right knee the first day I started making myself learn to skid. I kept fucking it up, and smashing the inside of my thigh against my brake caliper. I had a bruise about 6" in diameter for like a week. The other night, I finally got it down, I just wasn't going fast enough to get good long ones going. But now I can skid for miles, and I'm staring to be able to steer them, too. I also learned how to do the "off the back of the bike" dismount, it's pretty rad.Comment

I know the rear brake isn't as good as a front, but it actually does help me slow down quicker when I need it to, so it's better than nothing for a beginner like me.
Cool man! Well welcome... I'm a newbie myself... it's good times!Comment

I have read through this thread and decided that i want to "build" a fixed gear bike, and this is my progress so far. I got this bike for free it is an old columbia 10 speed that was bright orange. I stripped the paint and repainted the frame white and the forks black. I plan to re-use the original tires (they are in great condition), the frame, forks, front wheel, and handle bars. I havent decided what parts to buy specifically , i still need to research. If any one has any parts they would recommend, i would love to hear it.

Went out riding solo tonight, had some fun. I'm getting a lot better at the off-the-back dismount, I'm almost to where I can just walk right out of it. My trackstands are getting better, too. I'm still rolling back and forth a lot, but I'm getting more to where I can stay up for longer. My skids are getting a lot better, too. I've been skidding up to stops more and more, and for much longer, and relying on my brake a lot less.
Oh yeah, and my new pedals/clips/straps will be here tomorrow!Comment

dude, you'll need a bit more steer tube than that to be safe, imo. it doesn't look like there is enought clamping surface for a stem that will be taking on the forces of a fixie. safe might not be cool with fixies, but a strong bike is always cooler than breaking shit.
you can get prebuilt track (fixed hub) wheels for cheaper than building your own but the latter is more fun. just build something with a front brake until you learn to control your speed, then change components as your taste develops.Originally posted by DozyproductionsYou know why you're drinking that Pabst?
