Lol. most people only know about this from TV.

edit: I completely agree with Jgood

horrific audio, wasn't able to hear much of what was said. however, here are my observations.

one of the most dangerous places for police officers to be is standing at your fucking window. why? people driving see the pretty blue lights and start staring over there. then what happens? they absent-mindedly start steering towards them. So I don't have time to debate with you on the side of the fucking road. That's what the goddamn court date is for.

Two, the tape jumped until the officer was making his return to the vehicle with the summons. He may not have run the driver and vehicle info automatically, it's pretty much officer discretion if they choose to do that or not. Next, it appeared the officer did not explain the consequences of not signing the summons - that it was not an admission of guilt and he would be taken into custody and brought before a magistrate if he refused to sign.

Next, if you have a person outside the car on the side of the road, someone you don't know from adam, and he jams his fucking hands in his pockets and starts walking away, that's a problem. Especially if the officer just told you to turn around and put your hands behind your back. He could be grabbing a weapon, could be he's trying to flee, could be that's just a natural posture for him. The officer had no idea what the fucking guy's intentions were. The wife is lucky she didn't get shot. I saw the car door open and thought "oh fuck, this is not going to end well." The guy trying to walk away after being told to turn around and put his hands behind his back justifies the use of force.

Again, as stated earlier Miranda only applies to questioning.

I don't know if the officer ever told the guy how fast he was going. Someone earlier said 48/40. well, that's still speeding. State/local laws vary, but that 100 ft rule may not be the case in your area. It may just be the plane of the sign.

Cliffs Notes: Officer could stand to communicate better but use of force was justified.

It all could of been avoided if the fucking cop actually had a case for speeding and told him how fast he was going.....

Anyone got any of those videos where the cop gets nailed by a passing motorist?

Its based on personal experience, none of which is influenced by driving violations because I don't have any. Cops have proved to me time and time again how they are a waste of space with precious few examples of usefulness.

I would have just signed the ticket - especially if I know I'm not guilty, they're pretty easy to get out of if you contest the ticket in court.

I hate to say this, but I agree with Jordan on this matter. When one of our trucks gets stolen, the cops just don't give a flying fuck about a 120k + piece of machinery. But when it's booking someone for going 10 over, they are all over it like white on rice. I have never seen police do anything positive.

You're pissed because a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff that got stolen from you is not worth their time?

And what do you expect them to do? There are different officers for different things. Some are hired to police traffic. Ya, they give tickets for 10 over and that is the law. What would happen if no cops ever wrote tickets?

the state would lose out on billions of dollars in revenue....

don't think speeding tickets have any other purpose.

Do you think driving habits would change if there were no cops to enforce the law?

sure, the few idiots out there who want to drive aggressively and kill themselves/others will do so. but they're going to do that anyway. everyone else will drive at speeds they feel safe at.. which is pretty much what already happens (and rarely matches up with the actual speed limit).

ever drive in canada? they will give tickets if you're being an idiot, but for the most part speed limits are ignored. it's not perfect, but I doubt you'd get harassed for a speeding violation like you do down here.

cool, so all the drunks can drive drunk and all the idiots can kill those that are not being dumb. good plan. get rid of traffic tickets all together.

don't get me wrong, i think a lot of dumb tickets are given out and that police officers should focus more on bad drivers and not just speeding, but there is a place for officers writing tickets.

i think anyone that says "the cops didn't drop everything and send the entire squad out to find my stolen car" is just plain ignorant. think about everything that has to be watched and taken care of. they do what they can and there are more important things out there than your stolen stereo or broken windshield.

You need to can the 'tude and go for a ride along. If you have already done that, I simply cannot see how you could take this stance.

Don't act like you're a special case... do you think they give a shit about a few hundred dollars worth of anyones property (or maybe even thousands)? Someone out east of Eugene had a SAFE stolen out of their floor! It had THOUSANDS of dollars with of irreplaceable stuff in it. What did the cops say? "We'll do our best." It happens. If something gets jacked that isn't a car/camper/motorcycle and costs less than $500; you can rest soundly assuming it's gone.

However, if you dial 911 because someone is in your house with a gun to your wifes head in the other room, that would likely get their attention. But, since they are a waste of space, I'm sure you're strapped and loco - ready to pull the trigger and defend your actions in court when the smoke clears, right?

People that bitch about cops piss me off. We have all done our fair share of illegal shit, and most of us have been caught at one point or another. But, there is a LOT of shit we have ALL gotten away with that we SHOULD have been busted for. Not a single person is above that. By and large, if you respect the cops and do what they ask, they will eventually either get sick of bothering you or go easier because of you being respectful. They deal with shitbags all day; the people you look down on and don't want in your neighborhood. WTF do you expect them to act like when someone starts giving them tude?

With that said, the guy deserved to get tazed. I mean think about it; you are out on some highway with a guy who is not happy about something and clearly disobeying your directions. You don't know if this guy is using his GF as a drug mule, if he is off his meds, or if he has enough artillary in the back to start a reasonably good sized revolution. The offender didn't listen, got mouthy, physically disobeyed a command, and got tazed. My guess is he will not make the same mistake next time he gets pulled over.

This argument can be applied to drugs as well. The idiots that want to do drugs will do it regardless, so what's the difference right?

Plays into the drug argument pretty well bringing up Canada:)
