I've already called the police report in to all the local pawn shops, so they'll let me know if anything turns up.

Unfortunately, I don't own my house, so I don't have homeowner's insurance. I wonder if my landlord does. He's the coolest landlord I've ever had.

Do you have renters insurance then? That might cover it as well. If not maybe the landlord, if he is that cool, would help you there. Couldn't hurt to ask I guess.

I'm going to call him today, and see if maybe there's anything his insurance can do. I have to call my boss also, and see if maybe his insurance on the truck will cover anything.

What your LL probably has only covers the house. You probably need to get renters insurance to cover contents, etc. You really should have it. It is usually pretty cheap - especially if you get it bundled with your car insruance.

Even the smallest pre-approved card will be a safety net larger than $600 and you could have your tools again today without obligation for it for at least a month.

I'm still working on getting things organized, and I've had a bit to sort out some money for new tools. I can do without a drill for the time being, but I should be able to replace most of the hand tools. Things will work out, they always do.

Dave, I am going to look into renter's insurance asap. This area and the next town over have been victims of this kind of thing for a while, break-ins, car vanalism, etc. I am SO glad my car gets parked in the garage.

On another note, I just talked to my neighbor across the street, and they hit him, too. They broke into his truck and stole all of his tools, his headunit, all his CD's and his brand new Sirius satellite radio.

edit: moreso, There's gotta be some people you know or in the community that can let you borrow at least some of the tools. Everyone here does electrical work, someone's gotta have a decent set of crimpers and punch down tools. Hell, I've got a $4000 fluke sitting in the corner of my room right now that I don't even use.

I know how you feel though.. we had a pair of cleaning ladies (a mother and a daughter) who had next to no money.. we were so nice to them.. we'd advance their pay just so they could afford rent.. we bought them a washer and dryer because theirs broke.. we even paid them once or twice when they couldnt come.. they were so nice...
except for stealing a LOT of stuff from us. We finally caught them when we baited them by leaving $300 on the counter. Of course.. it was gone when they left.

It's a shame some people can't respect other people's property and the effort that goes in to earning it...
My father had his house broken into one evening, they stole everything.. this was back in the very early 90's.. 91, 92 maybe? They stole all of his audio equipment, whichw as some pretty top dollar stuff (he's a stereo buff.. fortunately he had most of his best stuff in storage), the big screen tv, all of the video equipment.. I mean thousands upon thousands of dollars..

I have to park my e30 outside and I live in a decently nice neighboorhood in tacoma.

I still bring in my v1, double lock my trunk, take off my faceplate, and take everything worth more than 10-15$ out of the cabin in my car. I also don't leave stamped cd's in my car, only burned ones.

Nobody deserves to have their shit ripped off, but you weren't exactly diong all you could to prevent the theft of the tools that are required to make you money. I would have those in a fucking duffel bag strapped to my shoulder at all times if I was that strapped for cash. "Never give honest people a reason to be dis-honest" I believe is the phrase here.

Like I said. It sucks man, but chalk it up to experience. Bring your shit in the house next time if you can't afford to replace it.
