    Dumbass Ricers

I was at the junkyard yesterday and while I was waiting for the guy to look up a part for me, this other customer starts talking about his car. First he starts out that he got rid of his Hyundai because people were making fun of him for it. Then he says his new car is a Saturn with a "body kit", 18" wheels and racing seats" and says, and I quote, "It's pretty sic".

It was all I could do to not bust out laughing. The sad part was the guy he was talking to agreed with the guy that the car must be pretty awesome (he hadn't actually seen it).

Anyone else ever overhear conversations like this?

too many to count. I use a cliche' usually and ask them if they have upgraded their muffler bearings.

A guy rolled into my shop to ask how much to toss a Honda engine in his Saturn SL2.

At least he's ditching a piece of shit for a decent engine.

I pretty much only talk cars with domestic (V8) guys. I'll flat out refuse to talk with any other "import" types.

I've got no problem with talking to those guys... but they tend to have a "there is no replacement for displacement" attitude, or are generally meatheads. At least they do most of their own work.

Try running an Import Specialist, I get all kinds. I once got questioned about the benifits of turbocharging a 3 cyl Geo Metro. Sometimes I just agree til they walk out of my office.

You get 70 hp as opposed to 47. Go google "pontiac sprint".

Dude even when I worked at a certain BMW specific shop, you'd get kids coming in with 240's and Honda's and stuff, asking for bullshit.

In fact, you get the same shit with the BMW crowd too. Not gonna lie. No one brand of car is too good for it, just uninformed crowd followers.

Might be the "firefly", I dunno - Canadian spec model of the 3 banger with a turbo.

Lol, I work at the dealer and hear all sorts of stuff. One guy came in asking to see the new M7. It took some of the sales guys almost a half hour to convince him that there was no such thing. Ten minutes later a guy came in claiming he had an M8. I laughed, and he got all indignant. We went outside, and there was his pristine 850CSi. My jaw dropped (I didn't know there were any in indy, and I keep track of all this stuff). I guess this was his chance to laugh....
