What a fucking joke, I'm disgusted with EliteXC.
The network premier of MMA was supposed to be great, but the doctor stoppage on Scott Smith was a joke, as he said he didn't get his 5 minutes.
I've watched Kimbo since his first fight, and I'm as much of a fanboy as everyone else, but that was ridiculous. Thompson on top at the end of the 2nd for a good minute and a half of just dropping unanswered punches/elbows with no stoppage?
And then instant stoppage when kimbo pops his ear, boo hoo every fighter/wrestler gets cauliflower ears, it's not in danger of blocking his vision which is all they care about. He clearly argued with the ref and hit him in anger.
Cliff notes: EliteXC might as well be pro wrestling, the fights are worked, and I would probably tap(out) Gina Corrano

I watched the Kimbo firght and while I agree that he didnt do much at the end of the second, the quality and power of Kimbo's hits in the 3rd were enough to stop the fight. I dont think the ear had anything to do with it, although it was awesome to see that thing flop around like a speed bag. Boinnnnnggggg!!!!!!!!!Originally posted by Simon S

But on another note, I called in the beginning of the match that Kimbo was gonna pop that "alien life form he has for an ear" lol. Although the ear may or may not have contributed to his win Thompson was seeing little pink elephants when the fight was stopped. His ass was on the yellow brick road on the way to see the wizard..the wonderful wizard of OZ.Looking for a 3.46 or lower LSD. Lets make a deal.

It wasn't the ear that stopped it (Kimbo popped his ear, the ref obviously looked at it, and then it continued for a couple more exchanges).
Thompson did looked rocked after it, but he wasn't out. You can see him immediately yelling at (and then hitting) the ref as soon as it was stopped, pissed off that EliteXC had to protect their posterboy. He looked worse after taking shots in the 1st and 2nd round but that didn't make them stop it.
Go look on sherdog, there was such an uproar immediately following those fights that it totally fkd their servers for hours, real MMA fans know that was some BS along the lines of pro wrestling. I hate to watch fights where they pick the winner before it even starts.
Dana White should bring kimbo in to fight BJ penn at an openweight and the world can watch as street fury gets instantly dominated by actual skill.Comment

If Kimbo doesn't start learning the ground game and get his cardio to where he can fight for more than one round, he'll get dominated all the time.
The Kimbo fight was properly stopped. The dudes eyes were all over the place. And a t the end of the second round, the elbows were weak as hell. And I don't even like Kimbo.

the fight was stopped to early....let kimbo knock him out if it was to be...and thompson is Naturally crossed eyed.

You could tell Thompson was looking right through the ref. Because he was fucked up. I will say that I think they stopped it because of the ear and not because of Thompson being rocked. I was embarrassed to be an mma fan last night. The sport is trying to legitimize itself as a professional and amateur sport instead of a spectacle and they pull that. The Lawler-Smith stoppage I can see - thats the NSAC doctor's doing - the freakshow thompson-kimbo stoppage? Joke.
Not to mention the stripper dancers and bret rogers being accompanied by Busta Rhymes for one of the many WWE-like entrances.
Besides setting MMA back a step in its evolution and common perception, EliteXC just further proved that the UFC is leaps and bounds ahead of any other mma orginization in talent, production, legitimacy and every other aspect.

p.s. You don't stop a fight for a popped colli ear - he stopped it because he was "wobbly on his feet" - not even close to a definitive KO. Gary Shaw could NOT have Kimbo lose - especially to James ThompsonComment
