How did the cop run the plates, if you did not have plates? Were they just in the car, but not mounted?
got pulled over last night

I got pulled over in my 74 Porsche 914, after pulling out and getting on it a bit... I was running 52 in a 35 (at the top of 2nd gear, about 7000rpm) when a cop hiding out zapped me with radar.
I pulled over once I saw him pull out after me, I had everything in hand to give to him.
I was nice to the guy, told him I had just built the motor... It had cam and was bored/stroked, so I just got a little carried away.
He comes back and says "Its a nice car, but take it out to the country to try it out".
I was 25 at the time. I thought for sure I was getting a ticket, but sometimes things work in your favor.
I was respectful and spoke the truth, and nothing else. Sometimes it works.

Agreed, cops should have discretion. But if you break the law, you break the law. Maybe it does have something do do with the fact that you're white, but I hope not. I just think that cops should enforce the law equally to all people and not give special breaks to people because of their race. I'm white too, but the cop didn't give me a break.i think its because im white. nothing wrong with giving a guy a break. i have a valid license, i have insurance. i should have got a ticket for loud exhaust and no plate. in minnesota you get a ticket for not carrying your license and insurance card but you go down and provide proof and it goes away. attitude is everything. cops have the authority to give you a break if they want and youre not endangering the public. i was on a closed road as wellComment

I got pulled over without my insurance card, and although I had valid tabs and a registration from the DOT, technically it wasn't valid (not in the system, hadn't dealt with the state patrol yet). No ticket. ;)Comment

You're right about the respect.im driving my M2 trying to put a few miles on it to gain some trust in it before i head to north carolina. i have a header and a straight thru glasspack as a temporary exhaust, no plates, no insurance card and no drivers license on me and a cop pulls me over. cop was the nicest guy ever. i got out and he asked my name and if it was my car. i told him i didnt have a license on me, he ran the plate to make sure it listed to the name i gave him and then started asking about the car. we bullshitted for 10 minutes and he told me to have fun with the car. no tickets, no warning, no nothing. for all you baggypants who whine constantly about cops you might consider its your attitude the cops dont like. i did fondle his nutsack a little but i dont think that had any effect. I was out with my buddy tuning his a/n and he opened up it up on this country road. We were probably doing about 20 over and this stater is comming down this other road and hits us with k-band. we were dead to rights. so he pulls us over and my friend explains very politely that he just installed this EMS, and is trying to tune it himself (as i'm sitting there with a lap top), has a clean record, registration/license/insurance valid, and acknowledges that has was in fact going over the speed limit. so the cop goes and checks the information. Comes back and is like,"OK, you checked out clean, and you're obviously not lieing about what you're doing with the car... so just slow down and keep it closer to the speed limit and out of the city". Told us good luck and to have a nice day and we were on our way.
But, in your case, being an old guy really doesn't hurt either.PNW Crew

I think theres a moral judgement call there. He wasnt doing anything that was detrimental to his life or any others on the road. If he was taking loves into his hands, then there's something that needs to be done. Kind of like a no harm no foul. Now, if he caused an accident, even non related to his lack of information, then you have to get for all its worth. Whether the officer was doing his job or not, he was morally genuine. I can appreciate that.

Its true, I hate to say it but there are some "nice" cops around. Like the guy who pulled me over in my m3 the first time. Granted I still got a ticket, but it was reduced a shit ton so I wouldn't get a wreckless. Then I bullshitted with the cop about my car for a while, he was a cool guy.
At the same time though, I get hassled a lot for stupid reasons. Like the blinker stalk on my m3 is funky, sometimes it likes to turn my brights on when I am signaling. So I am in a turn lane, and I manual flip it a few times to get over, then turn it off when I am sitting at the red. Cop pulls me over right as I go through for not signaling. Now he didn't give me a ticket, but I do that same kind of shit in front of cops in my jetta, mazda, or my 325i and I never got hassled for it.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment
