I would not recommend holding your breath. He seems hard of listening.

Exactly what I was saying a few pages ago.

Geez man. I was a National Merit Scholar, got paid to go to undergrad, got scholarships through law school. I am a Phi Beta Kappa and have a stunningly high IQ. But I know how, where and when to use that intelligence. And you know what: as "smart" as I am , my real intelligence is knowing when to draw the line and shut up when it comes to subjects about which I have no real first hand knowledge.

Based on what you tell everyone, you are no doubt a very intelligent guy, too. You just don't know when to shut the fuck up.

What you clearly lack is wisdom. You have not had the life experiences others have had. I have never had a close family member battling serious life threatening cancer. So I have no idea what that experience is like for the patient or the close family. Hence, I will not try to comment on whether some people are weak or failures as they face that - especially people I "know" only from the internet.

But I have dealt with a close family member who struggled with addiction. And by struggle, I mean lowest of the low points with the nastiest of drugs. Whether it takes internal self determination, becoming a "sheep" at an AA meeting, or by being forced into a locked down court ordered 18 month treament program, if that heroin addict can stop using and stay that way and not end up dead in a gutter, it doesn't matter how he got there. Hell, in my instance, if it took me parading around naked through the streets of town singing zip-a-dee-do-dah in order to get him off the stuff, I would have done it.

Maybe you will learn some of this with age. I certainly hope so.

    Oh the humanity.

The thing I find interesting is how long he can continue to dredge up nonesense stats & then provides South Park episodes as some kind of basis in fact.

For me that is like the trekky dressed up like their favorite character asking inane episode questions of Sulu at a Star Trek convention.

IT WAS A TV SHOW 40 years ago and he is an old now married gay man!

I hope you survive long enough to make your first meeting heeter, they will be there and will welcome you when you are ready

You guys will need to give Heeter sometime to log on. I am sure he probably has a hangover at this time of day...

Now just exactly where the fuck did your tiny little mind get the idea that I don't "understand" moderation? It really sounds to me like YOU are the one who does not understand moderation...lord knows the way you rant about other peoples choices makes it sound like YOU are the one with the issue here.

I fixed my issue 10+ years ago. Your issues are your problem, bucko. My issues are my own, and my reactions are entirely normal, to a thinking man.

You attitude is that drinking is normal. Just why the fuck would you think sobriety is not normal? Perhaps (and this would explain much) you were born drunk?

My woman drinks "moderately", and smokes a little pot, too...that I supply for her. Oh NOES, can I smell you beer bottle cap, pleeeeese?

If I were able to drink or drug moderately, I would immediately go right back to it. But, in my years of drinking/drugging, I proved to myself that I was unable. I could at first, I did for many years (as in longer than you have been breathing, buckwheat), but I became unable to control myself.

OH MY GOD, I developed an addiction. Be careful, Mr. Ass Hat, it might happen to you.

So, once upon a time, I went to a meeting. One meeting, one more use of drugs, and the very next day is my first day of sobriety...August 26, 1997.

Betcha can't say that...over 10 years without a drink or drug. Can you even claim 30 days? You do not have the balls to go just 30 days without alcohol...no way in hell would you make even 30 days, much less the 9863 or so days that Blunt has managed to keep on living and being happy.

My story is not what this debate is about. This is about your saying that AAers are brainwashed sheep: all they need is to get the willpower to drink "moderately". I and many other members of this board have basically said "Heeter, shut the hell up".

You want you evidence? Read the big book. Between all 4 versions, there are about 120 personal stories...no one got paid, no one is in charge, why would they lie?

Want more evidence? Go to a fucking meeting. Screw up your courage, walk in the door, grab a cup of shitty coffee. Have a seat, announce yourself as a visitor at the appropriate time and LISTEN.

I know, I know...for you, talking is way more fun than listening, and since you seem to think you know everything, what would the point of listening be?

Somehow I am not surprised to hear you think of South Park as some kind of pinnacle of intellect.

Fuck, kid, you really need to start to grow up.

Awesome bro! Congratulations and thanks for representing!

As cliche as it may sound, mastering yourself and conquering your vices/addictions is something that is hardly seen or understood by the common eyes. It is the final, or ultimate, frontier regardless of what and where the world around us establishes.

"domínio próprio" we call it in Portugues.

Wait... Are we talking about Blunt? Damn, I think I overshot in props....

dude, you're an asshat. Even if you don't agree with AA, don't shit on someone's thread of congratulations. What's next?! Telling someone with diabetes that they're weak for not going for the dessert?

and besides, you know your limit, he knows his. He just doesn't want to go anywhere near stuff like that again- it nearly wrecked his life, why would there be a desire to enjoy it??

I could go on, but I'll stop (moderation)
