I wonder if he tuned it so that complete combustion reactions are taking place.

that was my initial thought.. and then maybe optimized it so the spark happened to produce maximum pressure/torque at the piston... but a 38% gain seems a bit high.
assuming a typical engine runs at 250 degrees (372 K) inside the combustion chamber (based on the fact that my M3's oil temp is just shy of 210 during normal operation) and exhausts to an average outsie air temp of 50 degrees (283 K), the maximum Carnot efficiency of (hot-cold)/(hot) = 24%.

again for those that don't understand.. (372K-283K)/(372K)=0.24, or 24%.

That's the maximum thermodynamic efficiency of any mechanical engine before real-world effects are added in (friction, non-isentropic air, non-stoichiometric burning, etc).

I tried doing some calculations, but it's impossible to do without knowing the rolling resistance, frontal area, etc. that would make up the force the engine would have to overcome.

Full of crap, its pretty obvious.

He only mentions "electronics" as his method of improving efficiency.

Plus all of his numbers are round. 400hp, 500ft-lbs, 110mpg and 3 seconds 0-60. Those are the things you say when you are listing what you want, not what exists.

Everyone wants 500hp but BMW MADE a 507hp car.
                      Im now E30less.
