RECORD DEFICIT is just a number... without perspective it doesn't mean much. A $400B deficit today is much different than in 1960. It's like 3% of the GDP from what I just saw from the CBO. Do you throw all sense out the window when you sign up with the liberals?


Discretionary spending as % of GDP is on the decline long term, including defense. The 9/11 bump still isn't bad compared to any time before 1992.

Mandatory spending: not under his control, and primarily concern for budget issues
Discretionary spending: not that much higher compared to past decades, and following 9/11 some spending was necessary (domestic security, etc.)
Tax rate cuts have helped the economy and increase revenues.

Don't be mad there isn't some magic fucking wand like Obama promises to deal with the increasing costs to care for the nation's elderly, deal with the effects of globalization coming back to hurt us, and the GLOBAL economic hit in 2001.

Average deficit since 1970 has been 2.3% of GDP. 3% isn't that bad. And unless someone FUCKS it up i.e. Obama by raising taxes and creating even more programs to spend, we should hopefully see surpluses soon.

Having taken a class on Hitler's rise to power, the similarities between the wave of optimism that Hitler generated then rode into office is strikingly similar to the wave Obama's generated for himself. (both presidents superceded incumbents who were blamed for terrible economic situations on the tail end of unpopular wars with untrustworthy cabinet members around him, and were seen as beacons of change and reform in the midst of political stagnation.)

By accepting the news stories that you are accepting and puking out that "record deficit" crap which if you are really 48 years old, you should remember that crap being used by the Dems and liberals every time there has been a Republican President, you are basically identifying yourself as a liberal. If you are not a liberal, then go ahead and call yourself a progressive if it makes you feel better.

Oh, and for the record, I am 45 years old and I was serving my country while some of these young people were in diapers. I wasn't sitting around seeing who could suck down that killer pot bud in one breath and drinking bong water.

Less government is better government. Less regulations are better regulations. Fewer slack jawed liberals in control of this country will lead to a better country. It won't lead to a perfect country by any means because there are a lot of "conservative" politicians who are seriously corrupt and petty as well. All we can do is try and aim them in the correct general direction and stop trying to line our own pockets with government doles. Just let the economy work.

There are other more radical things we should do too with government involvement in the economy, but that will have to wait.
