What he's saying is....

Cops can do a lot in their patrol cars so long as they are not on their way to work or going home from work. If they want to speed, they can. Make a turn without use of the signal, they can. Park in a redzone because they feel like it, they can. In other words, the vast majority of the vehicle code which applies to you and me doesn't apply to them.

I get followed from time to time by idiot cops, and it's always pretty obvious - and funny, since I'm almost never speeding. I just go even slower until they go away, there's no law against going 5mph under the speed limit. ;)

Emergency or not, when I call the cops I want them here as fast as they can get here. If it means that they can get away with doing an 8 sec.1/4 mile from the traffic light to the donut stand at the next block, that's perfectly OK by me.

That has happened to me many times as I drive the back roads late at night. I was going down Rt. 17 in Virginia (where they are VERY strict) and I was doing 54 the whole time. I passed a cop standing in a parking lot on the side of the road talking to one of his fellow officers. As I passed, he jumped in his car and started following me. The whole time I am doing 53-54 until he gets annoyed and flies past me. I think that it's all over with until I pass him at a gas station (probably eating a donut) when he did the exact same thing as if he was just waiting for me to go 1 MPH over.
