Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Pontiac higher quality than BMW
Its mostly about bitching. Who bitches about their car more. Someone getting their first new car isnt expecting the world. They paid 10k and they expect a 10k car.
Pay 5 times that and you expect 5x the car. That means you wont deal with satnav glitches or a creak on a convertible top.

It's not the cars - it's the buyers.
People who buy BMW's are ten times more demanding than people who buy domestics or Hyundais. Your average Hyundai buyer is looking for a cheap transportation appliance, and they are likely more concerned about whether or not their credit will allow them to drive away in a car that doesn't smell like sphincter.

Spend more money, get more features, get things that could possibly fail.
So true. More creature comfort gadgets & features = > chance of something breaking. I think the true measure of a cars' build quality can be assessed in its drivetrain. Consider how often it has left its owner stranded or ran poorly. My E30 has just over 200K and yes there are some trivial issues to be addressed, but there hasn't been a single time where I twisted the ignition key and it didn't start or run odd. As long as it keeps going strong, I'm not complaining. Much

Also, in BMW's defense, look at the pricks who buy them. People who buy a BMW for it's name as a dream car and can't even operate their house DVD player. Plus BMW has racked up an unbelievable amount of female drivers.
I do find it interesting that Scion has lower initial quality than Toyota, considering they are the same fucking thing.
I got into one and it was exactly like sitting in my 96 tacoma. No wonder they are cheap. The entire interior is just shit off the decade old parts bin.
not that its all bad, Toys are good cars. Just boring. I almost bought an IS300 until I realized it was boring as fuck. The 350 is a bit better but still boring.
I agree with Lair. It's the drivers indeed but it's also customers in general.
I used to be a burgular alarm installer and we always got more complaints from the richer neighborhoods who had the more expensive alarm systems than we got from the customers who had the $99 alarm system. They understood that $99 got them "basic security" on their house and were less apt to complain if something broke or malfunctioned.
And as Aptyp suggested, there are some rich people who are total pricks who you just can't satify regardless of what you do or what you give them.
After you work at a dealership, you realize how big of idiots BMW owners are. The Nissan customers are so much more willing to listen to your advice and what not. While the BMW owners have thise sense of entitlement. They figure if they spend $60k on a car, then it should be free to maintain.
A lot of people also think BMWs "break down more", because they are towed in more. ID have to imagine there would be the same amount, if not more, of other companies' vehicles towed in, if their road side assistance was free as well.
Money can buy you a BMW. Unfortunately, it can not buy a brain, nor common sense.

Sell it to me. I want your E30 that doesn't have to be worked on all the time. "Your daughter, the little girl; Sell them to me - Sell me your children!"

Exactly. Why do you think e30's are still driving around, along with tons of other "older" cars. I honestly don't think any car that is new today will be around and working in 20 as well as 20 year old cars today.

you know honestly, if I didn't want to track my car more, I really wouldn't have to do shit to it. Hell, my tune isn't even close to perfect, but it's good enough that I haven't touched it in 6 months.
