    The Ring - in USA

What are your thoughts on a track similar to the Nuerburgring in the USA? Not a copy - but the same sort of thought. A Challenging fun track, that has a similar premise.

Think one would fly? I just started wondering if we could get enough people from the area (USA) that loved cars to build something similar. Until then, we have the dragon.

Huge project, but I like thinking big.

That would be great, but as you know thats big bucks... Land is precious and something like the Ring would have to get so much buyoff from the local residents that most likely it will be killed.

I like the idea, would love to see it happen.

Huge cash - totally. But I wonder if we could get huge backing too. just thinking out loud. I also think there must be some sparse area in some states around here, and Midwest. I think the ring is only 12.X miles.

Do you have any idea of how much that would cost?
we are in 2008 not in the 1920s labor cost a bit more
today. I don't thinks its ever going to happen. sorry

          but it would be awesome.

Yes. It would be a fortune. But there are a few people with coin that love cars too. Not just e30 fans. lol

It would also be a nice testing track for auto manufactures. Like I said, just thinking big.

Nice idea, but whatever you build won't have the history or the prestige of a place like the Ring.

It would be monumentally expensive and about the only place where you are going to be able to get enough land to do it would be in the Dakotas or Nevada.

I have never been to the ring, all I know about it is from Yans', Mikes' pictures and a special I saw on the speed channel.

Yes its roughly ~12 miles, but what makes it so amazing is that it goes through multiple elevation/terrain changes. Which would rule out large sections of the US.

Also keep in mind that the ring is in somewhat central Europe, pulling in people from all over the continent, if it was in say Iowa City, Iowa, the population is not there to make it worth while, we live in a huge country.

I do like the idea of the car testing facility, perhaps if it was a shared facility they could all chip in if they already dont have one.

I beleive just to build the road its roughly 1 million per mile...

Oh yeah one more thing... Insurance...

We should build it in Mexico...

I think it would be great.

Here on Long Island there was a track in Bridghampton a while back, but it got ripped up...the people in surrounding areas complained that it was too noisy...and of course the real estate must have been tremendous.

Then, later, there was no more car racing on it but we used to hold BICYCLE races around the track since it was challenging in elevation....people still complained about the noise....of a (thats right!!) bicycle race...and we're not talking high-zoot eventa with anouncers and music DJ's....just the buzzing of pedaling.

Ever done an Environmental Impact Report? They are expensive, take a long time, and usually result in lawsuits when cars/racing are involved. Getting a project like that done in today's regulatory environment would be next to impossible (unfortunately).

Built it in northern Nevada - no one goes there anyway.

NEPA. Yeah, I have heard of it. I have read tons of cases around them, and the most recent being the Navy Sonar case.

Actually building in mexico would probably be more feasable than here......Lots less hassle. Insurance, permits etc. And assuming the labor force isn't all here, cheap labor too.
