that's not really true - out of the possibilities (open, closed, flat, etc), we will could eventually know which is most likely after we figure out where all the missing mass in the universe is, and figure out exactly what gravity is. the LCH starts up in 5 days, and could very well answer some of the "big" questions that will eventually help us understand these things better. But to say we will never know, that's almost certain to be wrong.

the leading theory based of what we can currently see is a heat death - the universe expansion accelerating until all matter is pulled apart. but obviously none of us will be around to see that happen. :p

Don't generalize and say, "Humanity cannot understand" because that is certainly not the case. Many, many people understand the way the universe is (or most likely is). And you cannot say that our universe will stop expanding and collapse on itself. It may, but there is absolutely no way to tell if it is more likely to do that, stop and remain static, or continue expanding forever. It is all relative to how much matter there is, and with how much force it initially "banged".

We as humans will never know the answer to that. We simply will never be around long enough to see the answer, and we haven't been here long enough to make an educated guess.

Wow, that is one drawn out sentence.

The simple fact is that we cannot explain everything. We as humans do not have the capacity to explain everything. We never will. We simply have to make good, educated guesses based upon what evidence we can gather and interpret.

For example, I am 99.9999% sure that we are here because of chance. Our galaxy/solar system/planet/etc. is the way it is simply by chance. Even though it makes little sense, the reason why I say there may have been some creator is because I cannot prove, or observe proof otherwise.

My wife is pretty religious and when we got married we agreed that she could raise the kids believing the same stuff she believes. I just keep my mouth shut. It's amazing how hard her parents and her work to indoctrinate our kids. Until you've seen a kid immersed in this stuff from an outside perspective, you have no idea of the kind of brainwashing that goes on. My wife's family will teach our kids to accept Jesus before they'll teach them how to read.

The idea of pretending that there is any legitimacy to this stuff in a public school is upsetting. You might as well teach Santa Claus Studies. That's just my perspective, I'm not trying to offend anyone.

    So what created the creator?

My school, same thing. All the good teachers left or got fired after I left.

Same, ironically enough "church history" made me despise religion, specifically catholicism, even more than before I took it. Also I failed that class 3 times. The teacher was a bitch and I basically did everything in my power to make her life miserable. They threatened that I wouldn't graduate unless I passed it, I basically told them to blow it out their ass. I don't think I ever technically passed. The teacher just gave up on trying to let me re-take tests to pass (which I failed each one) and gave me a D- to let me by.

Basically at our school, the "religion" classes were supposed to be a joke. Basically if you show up you get an A. This bitch tried to teach me things, and that pissed me off.

I more or less had the last "good" year there. The school went down the shitter really quick. When I was there junior and senior year, 4 teachers got fired, and after senior year, 5 more quit because of the bullshit. Pretty good considering how there is maybe 20-25 teachers int he whole school.

One teacher (boys basketball coach) got fired because he put some kid on the sidelines at a basketball game because the kid was being an asshole to him. Well the kids parents basically fund the fucking school and they threatened to stop donating if the teacher/coach wasn't fired. He was fired. Pissed me off.

Yeah, exactly. Go get a theology degree on your own time but don't bore my kid to death and make him think he's going to hell for having a boner in the morning, thanks.

I can see teaching creationism, to some extent. But if you do that, you have to teach EVERY religious creation story, not just Christian. I want children to learn it all, even Scientology how we were created by an Atari game going wrong. The game space aliens is actually how the world was created.

So I say, all or nothing. However we might have to make school a few years longer so they can learn the infinite amount of stories about creation from every race and religion.
