I honestly think that if it gets that bad, people will reinvent barter system.

Government won't have the man power to go after everyone for tax-evasion, and thereby government revenues will drop significantly. This not mentioning rich folks scattering their money around the world, investing into everything but US.

But hey, I am not rich, I got nothing to take or lose, so if IRS knocks on my door, I may as well open fire. It was good enough for Americans in 1760's, it should be good enough for Americans now.

        Ha.

Here is the thing that I think is seriously ironic/strange/odd about all of this...

We say America is "fucked" at this point, and I agree that it has some serious issues. Between the economy, the war, the way people view the way government is supposed to be part of life, etc... we are in a different state.

BUT, if you look back to and earlier generation, say post WW2 up through the early 60's... would you say that was better? If you took out the racial aspect of things (which was large, serious, and generally a huge problem), it was a pretty good time to be alive.

So, why was it that back then people could leave their doors unlocked, owning a family home was not a difficult thing to accomplish, most people were employed, mothers stayed home with their children, teenage pregnancy was a small problem, and people didn't bitch. So why was that OK then and we have strayed so far from it now?

I asked my Grandfather, who is 82 and starting to fail health wise, why this is the case. He said he didn't know, he didn't know why he could purchase a home and start a family at age 23 and not worry about it. He didn't know why people couldn't work for the same firm for their career (- the obvious globalization of the economy).

So the point? Everyone shuns previous ideologies about right and wrong/ "Traditional values"/etc... yet the farther we have gone from the the more we have become, for lack of a better word, fucked. I'm not saying we need to go back to racial intolerance/gay bashing/religious control of life/etc. However, there are aspects of that period that we would possibly be able to learn from.

Who can pinpoint when the degredation of society started? It wasn't when Bush 2 got into office... the framework for the mortgage crisis was laid in 98'. It was during clinton, because everything then was just about blow jobs and handy-j's. AND, it wasn't during Regan or even Bush 1 (who, fortunately, didn't fuck things up nearly as badly as his kid)... So who has a solution?

It all depends on one's own definition of better, which is highly subjective. Sure there was likely less violent crime, domestic violence, rape, theft, etc. 50 years ago. But people as a whole were less educated. A college education was reserved for the elite and dropping out of high school was accepted in those days. Technology is leaps and bounds better especially in the area of medicine which allows people to live longer, healthier lives. Technology is also better in countless way in which allow people to experience more pleasure in their lives. Society is just far more complex these days, not necessarily worse.

Good, the New Deal helped us out of the Great Depression. If the times are as bad as everybody says they are, then maybe we need it.

^^There's a lot of people that say the depression would have ended sooner had the New Deal not been begun.

More ad hominem from you. How about actually responding to my claim with evidence and logic?

Why, it's not like you would actually try and see what others are saying, I've seen you in the political threads before, you cherry pick crap and throw a little opinion in to make it look like a fact.

I'm not voting McCain ( he's just another pile of shit politician ), but I'm definitely not voting for Obama.

Was this fact or opinion, I can go out and find credible arguments each way.

First, history has shown that neither governments, nor religions are required for moral behavior.

Second, calling me ignorant is ignorant! Do you not see that Palin and her type are not interested in religious freedom? They are interested in promoting their particular beliefs over all others. They are promoting a form of fundamentalism that is embraced by the willfully ignorant, that is, the ones who feel everything they need to know can be found in one book written over 2000 years ago. There's nothing free about that. Nothing American, or patriotic about supporting blatantly close-minded thought. We should be pointing at it as an example of what not to do.
