That alone would exclude many voters, especially all the knee-jerk rednecks who when asked why they are voting for McCain, begin their explanation with "I heard Obama was gonna (insert negative GOP campaign talking point of the day here)".....

Of course there will be a lot of stupid people voting for Obama to be sure, but I haven't met any of them yet.

I look at voting as a right and responsibility. I know all the local issues and my stand before I go to the polls. The act of voting for me takes less than two minutes. When I hear of long waits at the polls, I wonder how much of that is people standing there at the machine trying to decide which way to go on all the local races and issues that haven't been splashed all over CNN and Fox of late.

^^I know plenty of people voting for Obama that haven't thought through the issues, and have been swept up in the tide of "Change". These people (and they are the majority) are the ones that will feel alienated.

I'd love to see some hard data, or at least reasonable estimates regarding actual numbers of votes cast or on how often this is actually happening. There have been allegations of this in various states over ballot issues from both parties, but without some idea of who is directing these activities, it is hard to know at whose feet to place the blame.

I would postulate it is likely many of these such votes would be nullified anyway, through the various computer programs that look for multiple last names at a given address and other irregularities that might flag a ballot.

Only in Florida and Ohio, hehe

Seriously, it's happening locally. NC has early votes, and we have groups here that pick bums up at soup kitchen. they are ballot votes and are not electronic, so if the legitimacy of those votes will scrutinized, so will be many other early votes (like mine).

in response to your question, i don't personally feel that obama is some messiah capable of delivering us to the promised land. i do however feel he (and his possible cabinet members: dick lugar, chuck hagel, sam nunnwill be more adept to deal with significant issues facing the WORLD.

            namely:

a destabalizing-by-the-day (nucler armed) pakistan (forget tehran, consider waziristan the new front of GWOT), assessing the non-proliferation regime (lest we not forget the 2010 npt conference), cooperation and contribution to global issues such as energy security, trade, global climate change (maybe making an actual committment since the rio conference) among the g-8 but more importantly the g-20 (brazil, china, india to name a few). NAFTA and CAFTA only go so far to help us if we enforce labor and environmental concerns. otherwise it's just walmart/maquiladoras for all.

tax code? taking mah moneyz? socialism? domestic policy, specifically economic and tax reform do concern me greatly, but this stuff is at the hands of the legislature mostly. keeping an eye on the big picture is imperative to our legitimacy on the world stage. it's true, john mccain has plenty of foreign policy experience. he's been around since the early 80's. he used to be a pragmatist when it came to use of power. Between lebanon and OIF, it's like he pulled the ultimate flip-flop. i honestly don't feel he would be effective in the capacity of world policy implementer.

and fwiw, SCOTUS justices are not elected. they are nominated by the president and confirmed by the senate. you should love the country enough to open a 5th grade us history book and read up on that bit...

              e30sd,

very well thought out.... thanks for your insight! As far as elect, it was a poor choice of words. I went back to see if you were directing that to me and I did in fact use the word elect. Thanks for the correction and understand that the President appoints them to the position. Being that the Obama is rated the most liberal person in Congress and having the house and senate stacked to the left. I have a feeling that the left is going to try to swing America way past center just to get back at the last 8 years being pushed to the right. Only time will tell. Its going to be a very interesting next 4 years!

i really think the obama/change/revolution thing is hype made up the obamabots. seriously they just perpetually feed fuel to the fire. shit even bill kristol said it, obama will not be this revolutionary guy, he will be much more centrist in his dealings with people on the hill. i feel he might be more of a pragmatist with use of force. i'm not for being waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles, but i would rather have a few, well thought out offensive (shit even covert) actions rather than an all out resource drainer.
