Yes, I did. But then again I can read 50 pages of a standard book per hour so it only took me a few minutes. I can imagine that for some on this board it would be equivalent to me reading War and Peace.

Cliff notes: Democrats want to eliminate all the tax credits that makes 401k retirement plans work and move all of our 401k money into a social security type program run by the government. This also eliminates employer "matching" that greatly helps to increase the value of the 401k account. Furthermore, the new system would guarantee that people who actually make money will get less return on their money with the "surplus" going to people who made little or no money and therefore little or no contribution.

(and a side note that 10's of thousands of jobs will be lost in the financial community, if you think getting credit is bad now it will be 10 times worse after this, there will be little to no capital for new businesses, and the economy will be much worse off than now. But that part is not covered in the article)

Obama will get to the white house, get the security briefings, get told how things work, and will then be completely ineffective as a President whilst Congress runs amok with things like the above stupidity. Obama has said some very stupid things during the election most of which are completely and utterly untenable in the real world. That didn't stop the masses from voting for him because he is cute and different. I hope he is a good President and America comes out stronger in the end. Unfortunately, it will probably be because of adversity that we are stronger, not because of great leadership.

Oh, and Massive, you really should stick to brake systems. Everybody has their talents...

DUDE, but he posted so much, what an A-hole! Just be like holmes and be upset he took up so much space in the thread... instead of worrying about the horrid implications such policies would bring...

i doubt if the vast majority of PNW people could comprehend pinepig's post even

Short aside: 3% vs. 6% (9% estimate for stock market return) would be a 3X difference over 40 years. (Not that you'd be in stocks in the last bit, but still a LARGE difference.) Risk and Return have a balance, and being sheepish about the market and running to the government is NOT the right route people, geez.

I just read the whole thing (yes, the whole thing). great info, and really scary. I for one don't see anything this drastic taking effect, but it is definitely within the realm of possibility. One thing I might have missed in the article though.. if the Government keeps handing out money (as in, returning investors to Mid-August levels) would that not create a serious inflation problem?

And to H0lmes and Danny: Yes, I expect you to read it. Read it all, and understand it. Because if you're going to badmouth people and preach your ideals form the rooftops, perhaps you should be willing to read an article based on the practical application of your ideals. That's called being educated.

I really hope spreading the wealth is as easy on April 15 as it is on November 4.

Just shut up about all the "spread the wealth", socialist bullshit. In the 1950's during the height of the Cold War, the highest tax bracket paid 90% of their money back to the government. Nobody was making any socialist claims about or tax system then. People should be lucky that the highest they will ever have to pay is 33%.

read the article. Seriously. Know what you are talking about, then formulate an opinion, then argue it respectfully. This is how it's done, kids. Most people on the board have gotten decent at it, you're behind the curve.

Of course not but we are talking about a highly conservative, anti-socialist government at the time and people were paying 84% to be exact. It wasn't until Reagan came to office that things changed and they have gone down even more since he left office. People should feel lucky that they are only paying 33%. Some taxes are necessary and if you keep lowering them, there will be no money at all.

In the PNW, being educated means going to Starbucks to read a blog that informs them how to adopt someone else's beliefs instead of being capable of learning concepts and finding information and determining their opinions for themselves.

Hence, they bypass anything that may take comprehension and just wait for Obama to come and tell them why it is a good idea.

We are too sophisticated for Starbucks. Up here we prefer the independent shop across the street where coffee costs even more.

Starbucks Coffee is nasty, and their non-coffee is WAAAAY too sweet.

The cutesy everything really bugs me as well.
