On a somewhat related topic, how do you think this compares to the Samsung Behold offered thru T-Mobile? Yes I know T-Mobile isn't the greatest....lets leave that part out for now.

I love blackberries but the Storm disappointed me. I just hate it that I have to look at the hourglass every time I try to access something.
Is it really that hard to make a flippin phone, this day in age, that wont piss you off?...ever since the iphone, the bar has been raised and I feel that most newer phones, including HTC, are lagging.
i had the first iphone. i liked it a lot. i just sold it to some guy a few days ago. i had it for a year. my monthly payment was 90. i didnt want to keep paying that..especially since all i really do is text. i rarely call on it. so i got the new razr or whatever. i can dig it. it gets its job done. im glad i switched.
This is hard to find. Where did you find this? This would be cool to have in this day and age. This could be heavy though, and confusing, where did you pick this up? This=This::Random(This).
A few months ago I was phone shopping but job/money issues put it on the back burner. Now things are better - and I recently learned that my employment with the state qualifies me for a discount on service plans (not on phones, unfortunately). So for the last week or so I have been looking at a new phone in earnest and I have narrowed my options to two carriers in my area (AT&T and T-Mobile). The market has seen a parade of new touch screen devices roll out....Samsung in particular has some neat phones....but after having a chance to toy with the whole touch screen concept, I'm not so sure I want one now (especially for texting....just not digging it, even in landscape mode). My aunt recently got an iPhone and although its display and graphics rendering is nice, I'm not totally sold on the thing so I am ruling it out of my options as well. Right now my top two choices are:
BlackBerry Bold 9000 thru AT&T. 3G, quad band & WiFi connectivity, nice interface, decent camera, MP3 player, Bluetooth, expandable memory to 32GB and half VGA display with 65K colors. For texting and push e-mail, I think this is the device to have. It's everything a business user could want plus some extras. Only downer: the price. Expect $200+ w/ contract.
BlackBerry Curve 8900 thru T-Mobile. This service providers performance and coverage varies depending on your location. Around Sacramento and the bay area, its a pretty solid performer for the price. They don't have the 3G speeds of AT&T, but its EDGE signal seems to work well for the BlackBerry devices. This model has quad-band connectivity like the Bold 9000 as well as WiFi. Its a bit more multimedia than the 9000 with a better camera and video capture/playback, not sure on expandable memory specs yet its all you can expect from a BlackBerry - including the updated interface and resolution like the 9000. This device can be had for $150 with a 2 year contract.
I think between the two I like the 8900 a bit more. The spacing of the keys on the qwerty keyboard is better suited for my fat-fingering tendencies plus its a bit cheaper than the 9000. Although it would be acquired thru T-Mobile (and its slower network), I think it would just fine for my primary purposes: e-mail and text.

And....what do you think? I remember when it first rolled out late last year it was criticized by many for being bugging - mainly software issues I believe. Supposedly BlackBerry has ironed out some of the wrinkles now.

i havent read through this whole thread, and yes i own an iphone, but i had the privilege of using my uncle's storm for a while while on a trip with him, and i was let down by the phone.
by far my least favorite thing is how to make a selection or even type one letter, you have to click the whole screen into the phone. after being used to being able to float across a glass screen lightly tapping very quickly, this method of input felt very sluggish.
also, when tilting the phone horizontally or vertically, and scrolling up and down, the "framerate" i guess you could call it was awful. it was so choppy, and really takes away from the sleekness/smoothness the phone should have. the iphone rarely has graphical hitches, and it is only when doing the tilting, not scrolling.
i was also disappointed that you couldnt change the intervals with which the phone checks your email account(s). if one could set it to check every 15 minutes instead of all the time, the battery life could be extended greatly, which, in our use, was terrible with not that much use.
i can't speak for call quality, though.
but hey, i guess if you have verizon you don't have too many options for large, full-featured touch screen phones.
if you're not streaming massive amounts of data or tethering, the 8900 is a better choice. it has more double the ram of the bold, a better camera, and uma access. i was with tmobile for nearly 8 years and grew tired of slow data, so i jumped ship to gayt&t. the service was more expensive at first but they offered a 20% monthly service discount through work, so i ended up getting more for the same as i was paying on tmo. the one thing i truly miss from tmo was international roaming, at&t costs an arm and a dick.
