you're supposed to shave your face on the first and grow it out all month, without trimming it into a style.
I dont like fully clean shaving my face though, so I just get it as short as I can with clippers. I can grow a pretty nice and full beard in a month too. last year at the end of the month, I kept a moustache and continued to grow it for another 3 months until it was a very long, old school curly handlebar moustache! it was bitchin'

give it a shot again, Your hair may grow very differently now...hell, i bet you only let it go for a few weeks in that picture. who knows - with more time you may see your beard take your face in ways that you never thought possible

i kinda gave up and started shaving like 3-4 times a month because my mom is irish and my dad is a straight up beaner...so when i do grow one i have a bald spot on one side that looks like a banana :/ but fuck it lets try again.
