I would imagine those are SLC SSD's (still waiting for the fucking video to load, thanks charter) which are spendy as hell. I have about 5 MLC SSDs sitting on my desk now with no use for them.

                But will it blend?

I bet we will be able to build something like that ourselves in a few years for a few hundred dollars?

the problem with this set up is you multiply hard drive failure probablity by 24. all it takes is one of the hd's to fail and you lose everything.

IF he's running in a RAID 0 setup (I would assume he was).

Run RAID 10, and he'd have half the capacity, but redundancy.

No kidding... but building that today would be a fucking expensive ordeal. Did you see the parts list?

(for anyone that didn't catch it...)
                      26 x Samsung SSD 256GB MLC
                      4 x Kingston 800MHz 1GB RAM
                      2 x Blu-Ray RW/HD-DVD combo drives
                      2 x Corsair 1000W power supplies
                      2 x Intel QX9775 Core2 Extreme
                      2 x Zalman coolers
                      2 x Radeon HD 4870 X2 GPUs
                      1 x Intel Skulltrail D5400XS motherboard
                      1 x Adaptec 5 Series RAID (8 channel)
                      1 x Areca 1680ix-24 RAID
                      1 x Thermaltake Armor case

At today's prices, that put this rig somewhere in the region of $21,000. Those drives alone are worth about $13,000 of that.

True, but the whole rig is SSDs... hardrive failure would be much much smaller than a single HDD.

This rule doesnt apply to a SSD with no moving parts. You'll find a ton of crap online about a high failure rate of SSD drives in laptops, when in reality this is a failure for the laptop.
                        tasty
