That said it doesn't convince me, because while this does date and support the scripture there is simply no way of proving the supernatural - which is the core of the the faith.

I agree with whatever the rolling shadow picture guy is saying, mostly.

Lining up recorded dates and locations with multiple sources and actual locations is a little different. Sure there is room for everything, and as always there is debate. But I think the case can be made that that there is nothing which proves the bible is wrong.

I wanted to make a thread about this topic but I'll ask here:

If you do right by the devil (ie: sinner) and go to "hell" why will you be punished when you get there?

This is a pretty vague question, and I'm sure many people would answer it differently.

While I no longer consider myself a Christian, this is how I would have responded to that:

The devil was a fallen angel, sent to hell by God; therefore, he wants to bring others down with him so that he does not have to suffer in hell by himself and so that he can pull others away from God (whom he does not like).

          Very interesting topic.

Everybody takes religion too seriously. People should use the bible and other religious books as guides and moral ways to live your life.

              that's exactly how I feel...

People always bash organized religion. I don't think religion is the issue at hand but the extremists (found in all religions) in the news we always here about.

If you believe some part of the bible, why not all?

I hear that argument used all of the time.

When did I say I don't believe it at all? The bible and other religious books have helped civilization's move forward in every aspect of life from personal being to technology and science. If there was no religion there would be nothing but war and violence (on a much larger scale then it already is).

All I'm simply saying is, people get too hung up on who is Muslim and who is Christian and who is Mormon, etc. All of these books and religion's have the same basic principle and even share MANY of the shame stories. If people would use these books as a guide on how to live life, there would be far less problems in the world.

All that said, I was brought up with a very strict Christian family and I've spent many, many hours studying all religion's. I consider myself a Christian and will bring any kids I bring into this fucked up world a Christian as well.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say, or perhaps I was unclear.

I was saying that if you choose to believe that some parts of the bible are true, as I think that you do, then why wouldn't you believe that all of the bible is true. (Therefore, other religions outside of Christianity that contradict the bible would, in fact, be wrong)

Yeah I didn't quite catch what you were getting at. My problem with the bible as it stands now is it has been molested for 2000 years now. But the basic core principle's that were spoken by Jesus and God still hold true to me at least.

Yeah I'm with you. Realizing how religion has morphed throughout time to suite a specific regions needs is very interesting. Not to mention how many interpretations are out there, and how few realize that other interpretations completely change their religion.

What's the difference between Jesus and a picture of Jesus?

It only take one nail to hang a picture of Jesus.

I see what you are saying, but I am still confused.

If I obey the devil, then get sent to hell because I was led into temptation and obeyed him in a sense, why will I be punished by him (devil, satan etc.)? Its like if I worked for the mafia all my life and had a perfect track record, when it came time for me to become a made man they just killed me instead. It would seem to me that god has a pretty good relationship if he has the devil carrying out all of his dirty work. A bait and switch if you will. Its just something that has always bothered me in regards to christianity. I appreciate your input!
