How? Competitors can come up with competing traits (once again LL vs. RR). They also are willing to license these out so it's not like everyone has to buy Monsanto beans or corn, but simply have some $$ going to them if they want their tech. They do allow other players in the game. They simply protect what is theirs. Hell, there are so many stacks out now with multiple companies' patents roll all into one seed - both get some of the $ no matter whose name is on the bag. (SmartStax takes advantage of Yieldgard VT Triple (Monsanto), Herculex Xtra (Dow), RoundUp Ready 2 (Monsanto), and Liberty Link (Dow).) Patents expire, and they have to invest in new ways to add value to farmers.
You don't know anything. Small farmers can tell MON to fuck off and go with a local seed company. Go conventional, spray more herbicides instead of a pre and post-application of roundup. (Here's a hint, there's more and more going this route. Or GreenLeaf Genetics and never have to worry about big bad Monsanto again) Make sure you have ample space between a farmer who is using HT crops. "There tons of cases" your blog whined about, give me a break.
The only reason you'd truly learn and become knowledgeable about this is if they came out with RR Marijuana. Just STFU n00b.
