God dammit the more I read all over the internetz the more thankfull I get that I was practically raised by my grand parents and Great aunt and uncle, and got some values instilled, worked and beat into me.

The over-generalization in this thread is really thick. Is it the default position by "patriots" here that all Latin immigrants are ungrateful? That they are trying to make the US bend to their cultural leanings then the other way around? It's as if all immigrants are pre-judged if they have brown skin. Are they illegals? Are they Muslims? Are they here only for entitlements?

And I'm sorry, but assimilation is not what we should expect of any immigrant from any culture. This is a country that is open and diverse and should always remain that way. THAT'S why America is great. It's not because we have higher values then any other country, it's because we value what other countries can bring to us. We are a melting pot of ethnicity and a haven for tolerance. However there are many on this forum stuck on the GTFO concept of America. That shortsighted, arrogant and misguided mindset is what destroys nations. You all had better start reading your history, because you are dooming us to a third world status if you keep it up.

No this is silly and out right wrong. If your pointing the finger at me, then NO, I make no vast generalizations while I have not specifically excluded any one I assumed it was implied. That if you are here and dont embrace your new home and country and feel entitled to all it has to offer and not work for it or maintain a stronger connection to the home land then you should be there not here. Not all the "Brown people" fall into this category. The vast majority I know personally dont and feel the very same way I do, as its a discussion we have had several times.

No one is saying to forget all you have known or forget where you came from. All we are saying is to embrace your new home and do your best to adapt, Not recreate the home land in the new place.

I fully agree with you that the diverse cultural melting pot is one of the great strengths of this nation and is one of the reasons for its great success over the last 200 years.

The GTFO is for those that feel some where else is better or dont embrace what this nation stands for or the principals it was founded upon. Those principals are not gimme gimme gimme with their hand out looking for entitlements.

Yes History is just what I am talking about, when someone came here they made a 100% honest effort to learn how to communicate (you know speak english) to embrace the significant holidays, learn our history along with a whole host of other things.

I suppose I am just banging my head against a brick wall, it will not make any difference. I give up with all you kooks

I dare say that many immigrants who come here are looking for entitlements. While it may happen, in the larger scheme of things, it's hardly worth mentioning. Take a look around you. Who builds the houses, maintains lawn care, cleans offices and homes, works the fast food industry, picks our produce, cleans our meat and poultry, cooks the food at all Chinese buffets:)? Many latino immigrants really take on the lowest common denominator when it comes to employment. Why do you think that is?

The entitlement debate is a smoke screen developed by corporate America and to some degree the military industrial complex. Our attention is diverted to those who are unemployed and living in squaller and subsisting on whatever handouts they can get. And it ain't much. I don't know what most people think, but living on entitlements doesn't equate to living in luxury. It's a pittance compared to what we spend to keep Wall St afloat, and the Defense Dept. in business. Entitlement programs are not the problem, except the ones paid to farmers NOT to grow. I will never understand that, but I am sure the answer lies in big business trying to monopolize certain crops or the seeds that grow that crop.

When it comes to GTFO, the ones I think of are those who will trade some one else's life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, for a buck. Corporations who pull up roots in America to build in a foreign country to boost profits are the scoundrels. The person living on unemployment because that job moved out is the victim, not the problem.

I disagree 100%, at least when it comes to language. I DO NOT expect to goto any country that doesn't speak English and ever EXPECT to see things written in English. This is a joke that we have to have tests and phone calls and ATMs in Spansh. Get real. Come to America and speak English.

Not learning the local language WHEN YOU WANT TO LIVE THERE, is total crap.

^ well said for the most part, but can you really blame corporations for doing such a thing? If you owned a business for the sole purpose of making more and providing a better life for yourself and family through hardwork, what makes it wrong to maximize profits in whatever way possible? Do you think American corporations would honestly build in foreign countries if they werent regulated up to their neck? with unions demanding more than what they deserve?

OK, lets go back and look it these jobs. More than HALF these jobs are paid under the table. They pay no taxes. What does that mean? That means they ALSO get goverment assistance, as they have no "real" income. The amount of programs and assistance to these people is sickening. Oh yea, I see this all FIRST HAND in my life.

They have limited education, barely any English ability, and want to work for cash? It's not like they can work at a corporate desk job...

There's plenty of small family companies which produce seeds and people can use them. Only the ignorant think that big companies monopolize crops. Although, they do have the technology patented and you must pay for them because of their years of high cost R&D to improve yield and decrease losses to disease or drought (soon). A small family company can include these too for a fee.

You do realize that one of the few things the Govt is actually supposed to do is spend money on Defense right, entitlements are not supposed to be part of the equation at all. That said I dont disagree with the intent of them but I disagree with the time frame

Next you do understand that all the Evil rich "Corporations" were moving production over seas due to the US govt meddling with the markets and regulating them into oblivion and making it too expensive to produce here, and that the economic bubble bursting whorah we have had was 100% the results of govt intervention and regulation of all markets. You get that right??? Pointing the finger at the corporations because they went to where more welcome is an issue yes, but not the one that needs to be fixed.

If you want to help solve the illegal immigrant issue, you have to also prosecute the people who KNOWINGLY hire illegals. It's systemic!

Also if an illegal fills out a W2 his taxes are withheld, so the whole illegals don't pay taxes is total and complete BULLSHIT!! What they don't do is file at the end of the year, so they get no REFUND!
Actually, the reason illegals get work here is because dumbass liberal politicians put minimum wage laws in place which hurt everyone... except illegals that is. It puts the people it is told to help out of work and then raises the prices of goods for everyone. It especially hurts unskilled teenager part time workers, who get outsourced by technology or other efficiency measures to eliminate their cost which is greater than their benefit.

If people were able to work for a little as they were, then there would less opportunity for them to take jobs others could do but cannot legally because of laws passed that outlaw $5/hour work.

Although, they do have the technology patented and you must pay for them because of their years of high cost R&D to improve yield and decrease losses to disease or drought (soon). A small family company can include these too for a fee.
Totally wrong. Completely and utterly misinformed. This is a worldwide epidemic. Farmers are not allowed to reuse their OWN seeds from their OWN crops. Most plants produce seeds which can be replanted to produce more crops, but because gov't DEREGULATION was involved, patents were allowed to be assessed and now any seeds produced after the fact are the property of the seed company not the farmers. This drives up costs and makes food more expensive.
