While I agree with the 'don't talk' for the most part sometimes it is better to just go with the flow and play their game so you can go home. Going to be a long winded 'story' here but you will get the idea.

1am - Bored and just changed 2 E30s oil. My catch can is full and we need more oil. Hey let's just drive to walmart. 3 E30s all leave. 1 person in each car. Get oil. Travel back to house. County officer flips a bitch. Last E30 has an HID out. He was backed into. Of course he is going to be pulled over.

Friend is pulled. We continue on and 1/8th mile later pull into a closed gas station. Shut off cars and wait. First 2 cops. then 4 and finally it ends up being 7 officers. We are now 'trapped' in this gas station parking lot. 5 minutes of lights blasting on us(spot lights) an officer approaches us each.

License, registration and the standard questing of what is going on. Needless to say we answer. Went to get some oil. Driving back. Bored. Here is receipts for oil. Friend got pulled over(even pointed to them on the road back down the road).

Friend get's let go after he shows police report and insurance information on his car needing to be fixed. He pulls up. We laugh and joke and most of the officers like our E30s. They let us go and tell us that multiple calls that evening had been placed of people drifting. Thus we were targeted(3 loud cars driving at 1am).

So now... the better strategy was to tell the cops to fuck off in that situation? So then what? They can pretend they smelled weed and search our cars? Or get us all out of our cars and hassle us for hours? Wait for their boss to come out and hassle us as well?

Sorry but if you didn't do anything wrong. You don't have anything to hide. Being polite and telling the truth(definitely when you have SOLID PROOF) I have found is the better thing. I am not one to be 'nice' to police as I have been profiled and targeted on many occasions but in some situations you are better off going with the flow rather than pretend you know the law and getting high and mighty and pound your chest with this amendment and that amendment.

    My 2 cents.

This makes sense to me. I would have done the same thing. However, if you're sitting in the gas station minding your own business I don't see what they can use as suspicion that gives them the right to detain you if you didn't consent to talking to them. Basically I'm saying if you didn't engage in talking you could have just left? I think?

Well I guess a judge would consider 2 rwd cars with loud exhausts suspicious based on the circumstances, that gives the police the ability to question you further legally.

That youtube video is a good watch though, makes me want to go to law school.

Yah. I have watched the video multiple times. I am all for asserting your rights. AVID supporter of that. But picking your battles is key IMO.

I am sure we could have started out cars and left as they started to block us in. Now though they will pull us both over. On the side of the road and that is SUPER suspicious. So now we will have to deal with that...

Right, and I agree. It's just a little hazy because they can't detain you with out reasonable suspicion which is in itself a little hazy. So I actually am not entirely sure, it's definitely not worth finding out the wrong way when you're not in trouble. I agree with you there.

You received even more than you paid in.

Not a difficult concept to grasp.

I paid in over $7,200 at a $19,800 income for the year (last year) and recieved $5,300 back. Ironically, I paid in more than I got out. This may not be what you were specifically talking about, but in general, your "quick example" isn't super air tight. You're right, it's not a difficult concept to grasp but it's not so simple in reality.

hes getting to the point that many many lower income families get more than they pay in total, back. due to Credits for kids, buying green cars, and other similar shit.

I paid way more in taxes than I care to admit.

I hear that. There's abuse of the system on both sides, people and the Federal Revenue Dept., but none of that is a kids or a hard working families fault because they get some/most/more than they paid into the system back. Anyone that WANTS to stay poor for the "money back" is just short sighted and ignorant.

I guess someone (myself) can get a bit defensive when someone generalizes that anyone who gets money back (again, me and mine) due to kids, low income or whatever have you.

Fact: There's far too many taxes against far too many people, rich and poor.

The ironic part is the Government's greed prompts our own. A case could be made that if everyone was more "generous" if you will, the Government wouldn't "need" to pay for Programs that further the general laziness that comes with being human.

Oh I fully agree with you. I am one of the biggest supports and advocates for small govt and as little taxation as possible, the monstrosity we have now is NOT GOOD.

I said the bottom 45% of income earners have no Federal income tax liability, the bottom 40% MAKE MONEY on it. Given the typical occupation for illegals, they will be right around minimum wage, and thus be in the bottom 40%. It's a fair assumption.
