I see it like this, Isreal is a Jewish nation, Yes there are non Jews residing there peacefully. hmm, that theory of blindly backing Isreal has not and will not work. Obama has not hung Isreal out to dry by saying we are looking in to it, He is buying time. How is being diplomatic to Islamic dumb. Not all Islamic are suicide bombers. Iran is just as slighted as Isreal, I honsetly believe the only way there will be peace in the middle east is through talks and then through breeding the hate out, meaning if we can get peace now the children of the children of today will have never known the resentment of the past. That is how long it will take. You can not kill your way into tranquility

So, basically, here's a neutral description from what has happened in the past days. It's from a Jewish source, which indicates that not all Jewish sources are necessarely partial to Israel. And while, as humans, we tend to simplify things and put all people in the same bag, it is a false assumption to think that all Israelis think alike. There's a huge clash between Sefarats and Ashkenaz in Israel. Semitic Jews (Sefarats - from Asian Africa) are considered as second class citizens by the European Jews. Indeed, only from 1990 did a Sefarat had access to a higher rank in the governement. So let's not judge all Israelis as one homogenous bunch of people. Many of them want peace and want to give back Palestinans their stolen territories...

But reading many of the posts on this thread, it looks like the extremists are not all in the Middle East. ;-)

Isn't there some kind of sanction prohibiting ANYONE from building homes/new construction in Gaza but Israel ignored it?

You bet. They are called resolutions. There are over a hundred of them from the UN for the past 62 years (and most aren't being followed by Israel). Some resolutions requiring Israel to give back the occupied territories. Which obviousy never happened, hence the current incidents.

BTW My comment from yesterday about Born again Christian was not meant to be a personal attack, but a way to explain the support that members of this group give to Israel. Both groups believe in Armageddon and the return to a Jerusalem "cleaned" from Muslims... Bush, per exemple, is a Born Again.

for thoes who dont know why we are allies with Isreal:

1. They are a nation that we can land our planes in and use airspace in the middle east
2. They most likley buy the equivelant of ,all of europe's yearly purchasing, in military technology from us. This is one of our last true exports.
3. They have nuclear weaponry, and we gave it to them

Its no secret that we are in the middle east for the oil. Hell, if any of you know anything about history then you know we helped start the oil industry over there when that area was a desert and nothing more. Now after meddling in that area for a while we've developed enemies who don't want us there. We survive on oil. I think I heard once that the average city wouldn't last more than 3 days if we had no more oil. So really there is no option but to keep meddling in the middle east affairs, especially if were not going to drill in our own backyard.

Israel just doesn't get it...
