^Ya know, if you didn't drive a car, they wouldn't have to drill for oil.

much truth in this, but the oil companies make enough profit to be much better prepared for these kinds of things.

        Bp & o

Maybe it is BP strategy to get the USA to stop Drilling in the Gulf, So they can continue to be the King Supplier.

Let it fill the Gulf and make it fair game for every one, Put BP out of Business. No need for any more Drilling Permits and a lot of people could capitalize on it. Good for the economy, Black Gold and all the New Jobs it would Create. The Gulf/Dead Sea!!!

Do you even know what I was getting at?

How can you plan for a situation you have NEVER encountered? All the big oil companies have the same plans in place, all drawn up by a company up in Jersey. And numerous safety mechanisms failed, it happens.

It's amazing you guys can't seem to grasp that.

safety mechanisms were circumvented, it is amazing you cant seem to grasp that. Not only did they make changes to the safety mechanisms they did not properly document the changes so when they attempted to fix problems the stuff they went to fix was not even there! When there was a problem instead of shutting down the rig, they wanted to keep pumping and used a "band aid" and there band aid failed. That is why they are to blame, and it is not just an "accident"

an engineer here talked to me about it (oil industry). There were supposed to be 26 gaskets installed with the BOP's. They only used 6, and they weren't even put in right. Yeah, the guys running that rig screwed up big time. They knew it wasn't right from the beginning.

Noone could have even fathomed needing to stop a leak at the bottom or contain a spill?????

Are you serious? Do you never plan for anything you do? Everything is reactionary? NO. People need to have foresight and anticipate potential problems. Its amazing that you can't seem to grasp THAT.

I've also noticed that many of those who are siding with BP and downplaying the seriousness of this oil spill are out west or are nowhere near the Gulf. Those of us who are close and feel the effects first-hand can see the real damage. To be expected, I suppose.

Are you guys going to make me write a god dammed book again?????????

Lets see what comes to the surface as to side stepped safety and engineering protocols, before we all lay criminal charges and jerk the knees.

If that be the case then BY ALL MEANS BURY BP. If it turns out to be an accident plagued by Murphy's law, or from a best practices judgment call, then really SHIT HAPPENS.

Hey what about the FEDs that are supposed to have Equipment and contingency plans in effect and ready to be deployed at any time. Thanks to the Oil Pollution act. The feds and EPA blocked many environmental protection measures right from day one and has turned away help from over a dozen countries many of them oil producers with experience and equipment because he failed to suspend the Jones Act for this disaster.

I suggest you look to the Govt as much as BP for this, and not the Bush admin either this sits squarely on the 0's shoulders. There were and have been many miss steps by this admin to reduce environmental damage, but they were neglected and now we have what we have. I suspect, the neglect has been purposeful as it furthers the political agenda.
