Out of those, nearly 500,000 of the youngest, most impressionable men were in the Wehrmacht. Our leaders have been trying to find ways to control the population for decades. The problem is America's diversity, which has prevented any particular philosophy from gaining too much ground. But look at the GOP's message these days: they've aligned themselves with the Religious Right and continue to attempt to legislate their brand of morality. The message has narrowed to "be afraid of the other". The other being rather loosely defined. It might be gay people one week, or immigrants another, or anyone with a non-Christian religious preference, and the pundits echo these "threats" ad infinitum.

And please- what "progressive rhetoric"? Progressive as in far left liberal? Nah....my friends think of me as very conservative in a lot of ways, but not a religious conservative which is a whole 'nuther animal.
