But wouldn't it have sent a nice message to other banks to watch once mighty institutions fail? I'd be fine with bailing out the people affected by the failures- taxpayers helping taxpayers- but we all knew that pouring money in the top wasn't going to make more come out the bottom.... and so even though the banks are still there, the confidence of the people that got screwed has yet to be restored.

LOL... dude, even the most conservative economists disagree with that. The economy needs credit to survive and grow.

He can'ts because it wasn't the tax cuts, it was the insane levels of spending that started around the same time.

The roads that were redone in my area under recover money were roads that were not in need of being done. The end result is we still have pothole strewn roads in the towns and nicer roads in the country.

WASTE of money, to top that of the Mass Turnpike received money to get the road resurfaced and this road is a TOLL road! While they did an ok job it's already falling apart because they just did a skim coat and did not repair the bridges which drastically need repairs.

        Pork Barrel spending as always.

same here.. we had a new overpass built and had roads repaved in my city when they clearly didn't need to be caused nothing but congestion and headaches. on top of that, the project went over budget too requiring a ..25% sales tax hike in our county.

might as well just give the public workers money than pay them to do it at least it would've been in budget. FUCK washington

I will say, Tulsa received $75 million toward rebuilding half of the IDL (Inter Dispersal loop) downtown, and it was in GRAVE need. So far, half the construction is done and the rest should be done by the spring.

I don't know what it is about our legislature that can't get it together to keep the roads in shape here. We've had many emergency closings of highway because during the morning/afternoon commute holes in the deck open up, support structures show initial signs of failure.

            It's really pathetic.

LOL dude yourself. The bailouts didn't help businesses get credit. Instead banks suspended their small business lending and told them to pound sand. One of companies I deal with had 3 lines of credit with 3 banks. No late payments ever, but AMEX, BOFA and CHASE closed them all saying "it was product they were no longer offering" which seriously screwed the aforementioned business. His company has weathered the worst of the economy but that hasn't convinced the banks to open up the taps yet.

There's a thread on here whining about dumb stimulus projects, but none screaming about things like this.

Let those kinds of banks fail. Pay stimulus funds to the customers directly harmed. Not shareholders, customers. We'd need a lot less than the billions we've lined the pockets of the bailout profiteers with thus far. Then they can move their business to banks that haven't failed. Free market economy, remember? The stupid ones fail, the smart ones survive. But we keep paying the stupid ones to keep being stupid.

              It was a FAILout.

Very little of the bailout money was spent well. That that has been spent.

But that's just the problem. Obama is sitting on billions of bailout dollars and he's spending from loans NOT from bailout money. It's plain as day the dude is trying to make this country crash.

Not a choice, if we want change we need to make our voices heard and comprehended.

Now you know why Obama and the Dems pushed this bill thru without allowing anyone time to read thru it.

seriously? I gave you the chart and the link going into detail and disputing the heritage article (I am assuming the heritage article fuels the informed hater), how much clearer can I be?

also, the stimulus would have happened even if S. Palin had become president, the only difference would be the spin and where the money went.

The deficit went up because we started spending more than we were taking in, IN SPITE of, tax revenues going up.
