Who the fuck would ever ask to make less money? You pay more in taxes but you also are taking home more.

Brave is right on about the tax brackets.

You are truly a fucking idiot. Thanks for proving my point.

For a married couple filing jointly in 2008, the 10% tax bracket covers income from $0 to $16,050. From $16,050 to $65,100 the tax rate is 15%. And from $65,100 to $131,450 the tax rate is 25%. A couple with a taxable income of $100k will be in the 25% tax bracket, but they won’t have to pay 25% in federal income taxes on the full amount. Rather, they’ll pay just 10% on the first $16,050, 15% on the next $49,050, and 25% on the last $34,900. This works out to $17,687.50, or an effective rate of just under 18%.
That means if you make 1 penny over you get taxed more you fucking retard. The fact that it's a progressive scale is semantics.

Because you obviously have a hard time understanding the way we get taxed.

You make 1 penny over and you sit in a different tax bracket Meaning you get LESS money back.

You make one penny more and your tax rate is higher FOR THAT PENNY. For fuck's sake. Get a clue.

                Trollin trollin trollin

Here's the statement I took issue with:

I can speak for making a little too much. I made $25.36 a couple of years ago TOO MUCH, kicked me up into the next tax bracket and had to write a extra 4,300 worth in checks to govts because of it.
You don't pay one penny more into the new bracket and suffer a higher rate on all of your earnings, just those earnings in that bracket. I never said that tax brackets don't increase as you jump to the next bracket.

So to use Mr Sleeves terrible example: (no cap gains, no interest, no dividends, for simplicity's sake)

Yup, a 6 something dollar difference. Sounds like both of you need an accountant.

Hey Ulysses maybe you should be doing my taxes then? Nahhh scratch that, I dont feel like going to jail for not paying my taxes.

My family has been using our accountant for nearly 40 years, we mail our shit from all over the country to him and he only has a few clients he works with any more and our family is one, he made a 4300 dollar mistake ................................... and explained it to me. Yeah going to go with him on it, than what some kid in the intentez says.

Manic: If you get a smaller pay increase that puts you into the next tax bracket, You can make more and take home LESS, because of the extra taxation.

Take me, if I work more than 67 hours a week I take home less money for that week unless I turn in more than 75-76 hours. Due to the tax bracketing cut offs, I have to work 10 hours more to just take home a few more dollars because the govt takes it all in that dead spot.

You salaried guys wont see this, Lots of OT can be good

I disproved your statement, and that's all you can come up with? Learn to do some basic math, please.

And what's taken out of your paycheck due to fluctuating OT doesn't matter. In the end you'll pay based on what you earn in a given year.

Correct me if I am wrong, your accountant made a 4,300 dollar mistake? and you still want him to do your taxes?

He has to be around 70, do you get a discount if you get his depends and ensure?

No he did not make a mistake, Ulysses just thinks he knows more about it than some one who has spent 40 years trying to keep peoples tax liability to a absolute minimum. It was the 1st year I made a really decent income, with virtually NO tax shelters and filing single. It bit me in the ass, and on My accountants advise I now have some tax shelters to put some money in and other devices to lower my liability at the end of the year.

No hes about 63-64 I think.

                            Ulysses

Hey this is why I pay some one to do my taxes, I dont deal with them as the shit is complicated especialy for me as I have 10,000's in travel/living expenses while working.

Yeah I get the fluctuating OT, deal, But when you work a majority of pay weeks in the dead spot(for me between 67-75 hours) you still dont get much back at the end of the year and are in the bottom of a tax bracket.

No, I was wondering if the current accountant you are using made the 4,300 mistake. Or were you doing it yourself? I am leaning towards the latter from the first statement.

You are the guy that runs piping and such correct? You have been to shitty Binghamton correct?

Yeah, you get into that zone with overtime, it's the withholding part of income taxes, which is determined by the # of allowances you claim, as well as how much your normal paycheck is compared to how much it is when you've got OT on it.

So your facts as originally posted were wrong. Now tell joshh to eat a dick.
