No they can not. That's not how the Union works. They can/could discipline them. But Chrysler has no say either way.

More than likely they will get a slap on the wrist, have time off then come back on the job with back pay.

I would think the higher ups would have said so if that was the case.

"We are serious about these violations, which is why these employees no longer work here."

I promise if any of us were got drinking and smoking weed in the parking lot, we wouldn't even be let back inside the building to get our things. They'd throw them at us in a box as the cops hauled us off.

Nothing new. From 10 years ago....

"During a recent undercover investigation at an undisclosed auto plant, agents for Professional Corporate Intelligence made drug purchases that totaled $13,000 in one week, said Michael Garrison, president of Professional Corporate Intelligence, a St. Joseph, Mich., company that conducts undercover drug and theft investigations.

"Every plant has a problem -- whether it's alcohol or illegal drugs," Garrison said."

IMO, anyone who needs alcohol that bad before noon is a flat out alcoholic and needs help.....or if they won't admit that coming back to work high or drunk indicates they don't take their continued employment seriously and is ready to get sober, fired.

                  They "can" fire them.

                  They don't so they can't.

It's a really sad state of affairs.

So you can cite the portion of the UAW-Chrysler contract at this factory that backs up this assertion? Please point to the portion that states union employees can drink and/or do drugs on the job and not get fired.

I hate to side with joshh on this one, but to make people feel better the execs didn't say, "These irresponsible employees have been let go." They said, "We have numerous quality control procedures in place so they wouldn't affect the quality of vehicles built."

I know you're smart enough to read between the lines on that bullshit.

^^I'm glad to see that. Not for my sake but this to me is just so wrong. The Union saying one thing and doing another.
I'm not an American car guy but the UAW seals the deal for me to never buy American cars. As long as this nonsense goes on at least.
Unions were assembled for good reasons and now it's lopsided the other way.

^No one is saying you CAN'T, there are lots of things that CAN'T be done, but they happen anyway.

sleeve, you have already recused yourself from any discussion involving unions. You are a member of a union, so you can't be objective, especially when you have bashed on unions that aren't yours before.
