Because our current energy source is still viable.

There's a wind farm going up in VT, and the power company is paying the town each year, more than their yearly budget, to lease the land the turbines are on.

How is that a waste? As I see it, everyone wins. Someone's getting paid to find/plan the site, construction workers get paid to assemble it, more power is generated, and the town wins (local schools, emergency services, etc).

^ As I said, there is no benefit for the locales I've experienced them. Here in Eastern Idaho, the power generated is going out of state, and the companies brought in foreign visa'ed workers to do the installs, and they got tax breaks on the Federal and State levels, and are not paying any County taxes for the project. I'm not seeing much win there. The majority of people riding the "Green" wave are only in it for the profit.

Five nines of folks only do anything for personal gain. Why should this be any different? In the case I mentioned, there appears to be lots of win. I know the guy in charge of the project, and he's on the level.

I wonder how much those huge turbines change the weather patterns around the world...or would if there were as many as we would need for the percent of power we need from turbines.
Damn I better make a movie, maybe "A Greenie Truth"? Maybe I can get people to pay for the turbine footprint REMOVAL.

This country used to have thousands of windmills. I guess you think that is what caused the Dust Bowl. ;)

I haven't seen any data that indicates than wind turbines have any more of an effect than cities full of giant skyscrapers. Not to mention the heat island effect......

Considering your stance of "what a load of BS global warming is", or rather the opinion that it's a flat-out scam, why the fuck would you be concerned about some unmeasurable change in the wind pattern? You aren't. Totally calling you out here. You're entitled to your opinion of hating them, you can spare the BS.

Crapping on alternative energy because it's not as cheap as coal or oil is pretty short-sighted. If it was cheaper, it wouldn't be called "alternative" anymore because it would be mainstream. If/when the supply of gas or coal gets disrupted, the more alternatives there are available to supplement the grid, the less shit out of luck we will be. You don't need a supply chain at all for wind, solar, geo, etc. They function even in pure anarchy.
For that reason alone I have no problem paying a bit more for it to be there.. beats having a backup generator that is nothing but an expensive lump of iron 99% of the time.

As production ramps up and more research is completed, the cost of this energy will continue to drop. Barring some disaster it might never touch the cost of oil/coal/gas, but with every breakthrough in development they become more useful to a lot of people. A 10% increase of solar efficiency would have a HUGE impact. You think people paid 2x as much when solar calculators came out just to dump the battery? fuck yeah they did and not a single person regretted it. Now the replacement battery costs more than that whole damn calculator.

I'm done. Hopefully you can see the value in this instead of seeing red every time you drive past.

have you looked into nuclear? that really is the cleanest power source that have basically zero impact on the environment.

i dont have any data, but my Dynamics Professor (who is a very credible source) mentioned that wind farms change wind patterns, therefore local weather, wherever they are built.
