And my point is that if you have kids, your perspective will probably be different. If you have seen the trust, innocence, vulnerability and love that is a child, then you will see this as a big deal. Allowing the presence of this type of material on a mainstream, high profile site such as amazon may lend a sense of normality to pedophiles. Realize this: they rape two year olds. It’s a big deal.

When did I say that I wanted this in the mainstream? I don't, and I'm 100% okay with Amazon taking it off of their shelves. This doesn't change the fact that these books are still out there somewhere, and if someone wants to learn about pedophilia then they will.

I'd be curious to see how many people "came out of the closet" if you will about being a pedophile because of this book. More likely they were already going to make this decision and that is why they found the book... I highly doubt a non-pedophile would find this book and suddenly be captivated by their newfound skill and go rape a child.

Two problems here ... "smart" (smart as in a balance of intellect and common sense) people don't commit these types of crimes and these types of criminals generally put the blame on others therefore (in their mind) making them immune to the consequences.

I mostly meant the individuals lured into the crimes. In the case of children it is the parents responsibility to defend against this kind of crime.

The book should remain available, end of story. This is a major freedom of speech/press issue. It's not whether or not the book should be removed, it's the precedent that it sets. There is a reason we rank 24th in freedom of press and are slipping all the time. Every decision like this erodes the integrity of the constitution and adds gray area where none should be allowed. What happened to "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it"? Does not apply to written word?

Are you blasting Amazon for not being able to buy the Necronaumagan (sp?), the Satanic Bible?

I think you guys are confusing "prior restraint" with a retailers right not to sell some products.

Interesting debate. Using drugs, speeding on the highway, robbing banks, have sexual relations with a minor, are all illegal acts. Many have already written books about using drugs, robbing banks or speeding on the highway. As far as I know, none of those writers have been arrested.

It sure is inappropriate to write/fantasize about having sex with a minor. But as long as it stays in writing, nobody has been harmed and therefore no legal offense was done.

as sick as the subject is, it's still should be covered under free speech. of course as a private company, amazon has the right to sell or not sell what it wants provided it's not breaking the law. free speech is just that, there are no restrictions or drawing the line.

I can kill all the hookers, jews, japs, arabs, and nazis that I want in a video game, a form of fantasy. Should that be illegal? I could write books about the same topics. Should that be illegal? How about reading books on how to kill, rape, torture, etc the same groups of people? Is it right in my mind that you can buy some of this stuff legally? no, but without games to let off some steam I could have killed someone by now.
