You hurt someone or yourself (attempted suicide for example) and get caught, you will get locked up. I can kill all the hookers, jews, japs, arabs, and nazis that I want in a video game, a form of fantasy. Should that be illegal? I could write books about the same topics. Should that be illegal? How about reading books on how to kill, rape, torture, etc the same groups of people? Is it right in my mind that you can buy some of this stuff legally? no, but without games to let off some steam I could have killed someone by now.

Freedom with our laws is equal, if you believe something should be changed go fight for it; bitching on the internet about it is rather pointless no?

I don't think that there was a single post defending the author. Nonetheless, many voices defended the simple principle of free speech. That principle is not "moveable" depending on if you like or dislike the subject.
