If you make some old broads coffee too hot then Starbucks could be sued for $2million but they dont pay your ass $2million do they? No, they pay you $9.50 because that is all you are worth day to day. Its just how it is. Dont like that pitchers make more, dont support baseball.
Fine, you found one CEO who was contracted with a 3 million annual pension. The rest everyone was bitching about on CNN got like 1-2mil for their ETF (which is what conan had). And again, that asshole had a bigger impact than anyone else on the company, they contracted to him what they thought would be value he brought.

As with most overly simplified statements in political discussions...
I'll also simplify. Power, unchecked, is dangerous. Whether it's business or government, there's an argument to be made that too much on either side is a scary thing. I think that the discussion that should be taking place is whether it's the 'elite' that should be kept in check (these days, taxes seems to be the controversial topic) or government (since money makes the world go 'round, so taxes again), aren't we all (assuming we're lower/middle) kinda in the same boat?
There are arguments to be made that big business is dependent upon the lower/middle, but isn't government subject to the same? How do we get what we want without playing to either side?
Maybe that is the discussion. Maybe y'all are trying to point to where the line should be drawn...it's all just so hyperbolic that it's hard to figure out what you're saying. But in a way, it's a good problem to have.Leave a comment:

Hmmm.....It costs airlines lots of money when a pilot fucks up. A serious crash costs a plane and possibly hundreds of lives, not to the ripple effects the loss of those lives has on thousands of other people, and lastly, the public's perception of the safety of the airline itself. Many millions of dollars out the window. The American crash in the Bronx in 2001 (not 9/11 related) cost over $600M.
A pitcher fucks up and..... does anyone die? Anyone even lose a limb? No. Even a really great hitter misses 7/10 of the pitches thrown at him. I'd like to see how long a pilot around here would last if he missed even 1/10 of his carrier landings......
You just found one that isn't. Over-paid is over-paid regardless of profession. Let me know when Conan has to sell a house, or work as a greeter at Walmart to make ends meet.On a side note every single person I actually know who uses the argument that its a shame we pay atheletes so much were part of the "Im with Coco" facebook group shitting on NBC and saying he deserved his 44mil in severance. Which is a shit-ton more than all of these golden parachutes that people complain about CEOs getting.
Sports figures and late-night talk show hosts aren't exactly contributing to the betterment of society in any meaningful way. I don't recall hearing of a linebacker curing any diseases lately....
And since when is $44M a "shit-ton more than" $53M? And that's just one guy! He gets his, but the shareholders get fucked.Leave a comment:

WinnerThere is nothing arbitrary about that. The pitcher brings considerably more value to his employer than the pilot does to his. Its sad but its true. In any given game hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue can be riding on that pitch. Asses in the seats, advertising revenue, etc. The cost of that single pitch can be spread out over all of that and still be profitable. So how much do you think 120 seats on a plane would have bring in on revenue to be able to pay pilots $50k a flight?

In fact, compensation is extraordinarily arbitrary.
When an entry-level commercial pilot who has lots of schooling to pay for and 50 lives in his or her hands every time they go to work makes in a year what a major league baseball pitcher makes per pitch, it says something about what we as a society value.

Looks like the bill is now going on to our Fearless Leader... Good. They tossed in there a thing that will lower Social security taxes next year too! If you make $50k you will end up saving about $1000 in social security taxes.Leave a comment:

Yup.
And due to the over flow of unemployed in WA State, I've been taking odd jobs for about a year now. After my business went under (small remodel type), I've been doing literally, grunt work. I was going over this concept while I was I shit you not, under a house, in the less than 2' crawl space with 8-15" of water.
Guess what I came to? I need to get on it and do something else.Leave a comment:

Those people get disability, not unemployment. And what about the people who actually DID get fucked by the system? I am not talking about the scumbag high school dropouts living on welfare, I am talking about the person who was paralyzed when he was hit by a drunk driver and cant work. Are we just supposed to say "oh well thats too bad" and then let him rot?
Try and keep up will ya?Leave a comment:
