If supply is a problem (which I believe to be false) than the restrictions for offshore and Alaskan drilling need to be reevaluated.Leave a comment:

I have always wondered as to why we all drive cars that use fossil fuels in the first place. Ferdinand Porsche was building electric cars back in the 1890's. GM had the EV1 that did 100miles on a charge,137HP and weighed 2900 pounds. 0-50 in 6.3 sec, the Tesla can do 240 miles to a charge. my point is, I feel we have the technology and brain power to rid our selfs from the need of fossil fuels. but our profit driven system is holding us back from that progression. just as it is holding us back from the curing of "incurable disease" and providing food, cloths, shelter, education to every living person on this planet.
If every car in Amurica ran on electricity, we would exhaust our supply of coal rather quickly.. We have couple of hundred of years worth of coal at today's current electricity use. If every car ran on electricity, it is safe to say we would run out of coal in a little over a century.. You might think that's a long time, but it isn't.
Coal isn't "clean energy" as the coal companies claim it to be either..
Also, we have a finite amount of lithium on the planet. Once we run out of lithium, the most effective elements in batteries, we will be unable to produce batteries that have the same capacity. You heard me right, even synthetically, we are unable to reproduce anything near as effective. So if every car was loaded up with lithium batteries, again, we would run out of lithium quickly.
No, electricity in USA relies mostly on coal. Inevitably so.
Water dams are not very effective.. Over time, the sediments add up at the bottom and eventually, the dam will be useless. I forget what it is called. This is inevitable on ALL dams. You can't just dig it out, you have to build a NEW dam.
Tidal energy could not nearly produce enough energy for USA's current use. Even coastal regions couldn't sustain on it.
Wind energy is not economically sound. They cost a lot to build and maintain, produce very little electricity, and the location has to be key. They need windy regions, however, can't be near potential hurricanes or tornado regions because they would be destroyed.
Solar energy has a long way to go, but it is no where near efficient enough. You could cover your whole roof and that would not be enough to power your entire kitchen, let alone your flat screen, xbox, A/c, etc.. etc..
Geothermal could work, if the location is right, like Iceland, not the USA.
You failed to mention Nuclear, which is safer than people think, and sadly, it is our only best choice.. Far from a good solution.
What a retarded rant..and think about the millions of dollars that come in because of sick people. unhealthy people are dollar signs for companies that produce and sell medications, medical equipment, and medical supply's. we don't want to cure diseases, if we do that what would happen to all the jobs? what would happen to the need for medications, and expensive medical equipment?
profits would go down, jobs would be lost.
I really am disgusted by our profit driven monetary system. It's destroying this planet, Its destroying the people. our governments are like road workers, patching up pot holes and bumps in the road. No matter what they do the road is still fucked.Leave a comment:

If you're on a payroll, what fraction of an hour do you have to work for a gallon of fuel? Minimum wage is over 8 bucks now in the States, isn't it?
I'm not on payroll, but if I use the average wage over here, you have to work over an hour to get a gallon.Leave a comment:

Oh fuck not this againit does not take fossil fuels to produce electricity.
tidal energy,wind energy,solar energy,geothermal energy....
Battery technology is being held back by our profit driven system.
look up Dr. Burzynski

4.13 for 91 in Long Beach.
Does anybody remember about 2 or 3 years ago when gas prices went up to 4.50 or 5 per gallon? There was such a big uproar about it, it was all over the news, people were crying left and right. I didn't have my driver's license yet.
Then a few months later gas dropped down to 1.70 per gallon, and nobody notice. that was NOT in the news. Point is, the news likes to play up the bad news and the "crisis" periods. But when gas is at an all time lo and is affordable for everybody, that's not news/freakout worthy.
1.70 per gallon. That was when I decided to get my license and start driving to work. At that time I was living in Brooklyn and working in Long Island. I did the math and realized that riding the subway 2x a day to Penn Station, the LIRR back and forth actually cost MORE than paying for gas and insurance. So I bought a car. Even when gas prices started to climb back up, I was still saving money on commuting public transportation
Bottom line is, yep it's high now. And that sucks. I'm in a new city, without a steady job yet, trying to survive and enjoy myself at the same time. $45 to fill up is not making my transition to California as easy as it should be, but I know it will go back down eventually. It will go way down, then it will go way up, then down, then up....etc.
Down, then up.....Last edited by BrooklynMW; 03-04-2011, 09:54 AM.Leave a comment:

I never read anything about $3 gas this year being the end of the economy. What I read was that a barrel of oil getting over $130 could be a tipping point and stop the minimal growth we are experiencing now.
I brought up 2008 because our economy is MUCH worse now and $5 gas or higher will put a serious dent in the economy.
I think it's something on the order of every 15 cent increase in a gallon of gas pulls approx $80million out of the economy, PER DAY.Leave a comment:

They don't pay that. 1.2x a liter x3.78 about 4.68EU is the gallon price. Remember they get payed in Euro not dollars. Now if you get payed buy a US company in us dollars and live on the economy in EU then that's painful.
Mike how much per the liter has fuel rose this week? Anything at all? Seeing nearly $0.30 a gallon in a 4 day span is a lot.
Four bucks a gallon caused airline traffic to go down, Food prices to jump up drastically, unemployment rates went up as well.
Edit: was just checking on prices in Germany 1.56/1.57/1.61 a liter then times 3.78 so 6.11 EU a gallon for premium, with socialized health care.Last edited by M-technik-3; 03-04-2011, 09:40 AM.Leave a comment:

Your reading comprehension is lacking son. 2008?

You and you're silly reasonable answer. They want something to freak out about. Let them.Loving my Super-Eta, and will be converting it to an electric when "the shit hits the fan" (which it won't).
Also, I hate Slammin.E28guy and all the guys who think the liberals are out to steal their freedoms and elect Stalin as our next president.
The way our world works is that everyone freaks the fuck out when things aren't as fine and dandy as a minute ago, and we aren't doing well because there's less third world countries to rape up the ass.
So, because America is fucking awesome and our economy is based solely on creating great ideas, we find solutions to these problems. Like renewable energy or more efficient vehicles, which are making huge strides but going completely unnoticed.
This isn't the end of the world, unless the Apocalypse has occurred about 100 times already. We will get through this. Sure, some people will suffer and might even lose their houses, but most of us will just be paying more for gas until we stop buying SUVs and Hummers.
America was founded on revolutionary ideas and growth. How about we stop bickering and realize that no matter who you elect, it's not one man who is responsible for all the problems your country has encountered.
I'm not big on Obama, but I'm definitely opposed to some jackasses complaining about one administration over the other, because we all know that every politician is as responsible for what we have to go through as the average voter is.
And excuse me for bumping this thread more, but I had to say something because I'm tired of threads like this following the same pattern.
Aren't the Republicans the ones enamored with the phrase "United We Stand"? How about you stop trying to point fingers and work with everyone else.
