$5 Gas in 2012?

4.13 for 91 in Long Beach.
Does anybody remember about 2 or 3 years ago when gas prices went up to 4.50 or 5 per gallon? There was such a big uproar about it, it was all over the news, people were crying left and right. I didn't have my driver's license yet.
Then a few months later gas dropped down to 1.70 per gallon, and nobody notice. that was NOT in the news. Point is, the news likes to play up the bad news and the "crisis" periods. But when gas is at an all time lo and is affordable for everybody, that's not news/freakout worthy.
1.70 per gallon. That was when I decided to get my license and start driving to work. At that time I was living in Brooklyn and working in Long Island. I did the math and realized that riding the subway 2x a day to Penn Station, the LIRR back and forth actually cost MORE than paying for gas and insurance. So I bought a car. Even when gas prices started to climb back up, I was still saving money on commuting public transportation
Bottom line is, yep it's high now. And that sucks. I'm in a new city, without a steady job yet, trying to survive and enjoy myself at the same time. $45 to fill up is not making my transition to California as easy as it should be, but I know it will go back down eventually. It will go way down, then it will go way up, then down, then up....etc.
Down, then up.....Last edited by BrooklynMW; 03-04-2011, 10:54 AM.'87 325i "Chewey" (RIP, my beloved)

Which diseases aren't being cured due to greed?
tidal energy,wind energy,solar energy,geothermal energy....
Battery technology is being held back by our profit driven system.
look up Dr. Burzynski
and think about the millions of dollars that come in because of sick people.
unhealthy people are dollar signs for companies that produce and sell medications, medical equipment, and medical supply's. we don't want to cure diseases, if we do that what would happen to all the jobs? what would happen to the need for medications, and expensive medical equipment?
profits would go down, jobs would be lost.
I really am disgusted by our profit driven monetary system. It's destroying this planet, Its destroying the people. our governments are like road workers, patching up pot holes and bumps in the road. No matter what they do the road is still fucked.:borg:

What are you suggesting as a solution?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

GM had the EV1 that did 100miles on a charge,137HP and weighed 2900 pounds. 0-50 in 6.3 sec, the Tesla can do 240 miles to a charge. my point is, I feel we have the technology and brain power to rid our selfs from the need of fossil fuels. but our profit driven system is holding us back from that progression. just as it is holding us back from the curing of "incurable disease" and providing food, cloths, shelter, education to every living person on this planet.
If every car in Amurica ran on electricity, we would exhaust our supply of coal rather quickly.. We have couple of hundred of years worth of coal at today's current electricity use. If every car ran on electricity, it is safe to say we would run out of coal in a little over a century.. You might think that's a long time, but it isn't.
Coal isn't "clean energy" as the coal companies claim it to be either..
Also, we have a finite amount of lithium on the planet. Once we run out of lithium, the most effective elements in batteries, we will be unable to produce batteries that have the same capacity. You heard me right, even synthetically, we are unable to reproduce anything near as effective. So if every car was loaded up with lithium batteries, again, we would run out of lithium quickly.

Water dams are not very effective.. Over time, the sediments add up at the bottom and eventually, the dam will be useless. I forget what it is called. This is inevitable on ALL dams. You can't just dig it out, you have to build a NEW dam.
Tidal energy could not nearly produce enough energy for USA's current use. Even coastal regions couldn't sustain on it.
Wind energy is not economically sound. They cost a lot to build and maintain, produce very little electricity, and the location has to be key. They need windy regions, however, can't be near potential hurricanes or tornado regions because they would be destroyed.
Solar energy has a long way to go, but it is no where near efficient enough. You could cover your whole roof and that would not be enough to power your entire kitchen, let alone your flat screen, xbox, A/c, etc.. etc..
Geothermal could work, if the location is right, like Iceland, not the USA.
You failed to mention Nuclear, which is safer than people think, and sadly, it is our only best choice.. Far from a good solution.

Supply problem is not false. As a matter of fact, countries like Saudi Arabia lie and overstate their reserve to sell more.

So your points are moot at best. You need to get into more industry news NOT the Main stream Mike Moore style end of oil docs and get off the Peek oil theory. They have been trying to scare us with Peek oil for more than 30 years. Its not going to happen as Peek oil discounts 2 important factors Tech advancements and economic forces. Resource supply is not an issue like you are trying to make it soundOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
