    Diesel you bastards.

We run efficient little diesel cars like vw polo's tdi that get 3.3 liters by 100km

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Had a rental Ford Escape Hybrid that was like that. You pull up to an intersection and the little Gerbil wheel in front just stops.

I was AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WTF WTF WTF I am in a strange city in 5pm traffic and this thing quits at the intersection out in front the fucking Airport????

I turn the key nothing. Then I remember that this POS is a Hybrid so i just let off the brakes and it silently rolls 3-4 feet, the light turns green and I stomp on the go pedal, Nada for what seemed like 10 mins with horns and shit blowing behind me as we slowly roll into the intersection. Finlay this POS decides I want to go again fires up and we take off. But for as far as my foot was planted up that gerbils ass, we didnt go very good and it would not rev up to the indicated red line on the tach from a red light or anywhere for that matter.

I drove one of those from zip car I think. Worst throttle response from a dead stop I've ever experienced. Wait at a stop, light turns green, press the gas pedal, nothing. Other cars are already moving so I press the pedal further, still nothing. The first car is already on the other side of the intersection and I'm still standing still with my foot glued to the floor and the engine starts, tires chip and I'm off. They really need to fix the whole engine start/stop thing.

Considering a vast majority of the members on here are gearheads (or petrolheads for the UK members), did anyone see the episode with the BMW M3 and the Toyota Prius on Top Gear? The Prius fully accelerated around the track got worse gas mileage than the M3 because the M3 was feathering the throttle and staying right behind the Prius. It's not about changing your cars but rather your driving habits. I went out and bought a 2.93 LSD so I could do low speed drifting and still get decent MPG around town. it's a BMW and not an econobox that gets 43MPG, but it beats a car payment.

So it's smaller and less powerful than the new Fiesta, and get's worse gas mileage using premium?

Way to go Chrysler! Glad to see the new CEO's are already counting on more bailout money.

I test drove this...its fucking tiny and will only get 38 MPG on PREMIUM. Fiat states that running it on regular will negatively effect the mileage.

Well no but it is the BEST. It holds the most BTU by volume, its the most stable at atmospheric pressures and temps. its the most economical to produce into motor fuel from both an economical stand point and from a NET ENERGY CONSUMPTION stand point to get the point of usable fuel etc... Shall I continue??

Well the world uses 89 million barrels of oil, since you're too lazy to back up your own assertion, I'll take 90 seconds and google to get an answer. And the US accounts for a little over 25% of entire world consumption.

From what I can find the number seems to be about ~175-200 million gallons of gas per day, depending on the source. EDIT: A good source is proving hard to find. I've found some stuff that says as far back as 2005 America alone was using 320+ million gallons of gas per day. I'll keep looking around.

What are we doing to waste it? And how do you propse to stop such waste? Or do you just prefer to spout meaningless platitudes in an attempt to seem educated on the topic like tjts1?

Ok every one, you would be amazed at how much gas the world uses in just 1 ONE Day take a guess - 500 Million Gallons? I would say is on the low side! If we all would just stop wasting it, It would back up at the refineries and then they will drop the price to unload it. And then still be conservative to keep it affordable.
