license plates for bikes coming to a town near you

Ok when do you say when.... another tax revenue source

A New Jersey assembly woman has proposed a bill to require license plates and a $10 registration fee for bicycles ridden on public roads.

When I was in college, they made everyone register and tag their bicycles purportedly to curb theft. They charged 5 or 10 bucks though so I think they made out pretty well.

do you ride bikes Danny? If so, wouldn't you be interested if something like this could be coming to your local community? Wouldn't you like to hear the outcome of this? Does this affect all bikes, off road, or street bikes? What about the "3rd grader" that rides his bike? Does he/she have to go to the DMV and register his bike?

Its just a starting place for more dialect. Participate or move on. Really simple!

do it, make all those fuckers who hog the entire lane on their shitty bikes pay for it.

edit: its different for the kids, but older than say...18, stfu and buy a plate. they probably cause more trouble and accidents than mindless animals that don't know any better.

Yes I do ride bikes, generally about 25 miles a week. Did you even read your own fucking article?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)If a proposed bill becomes law in New Jersey, bicyclists will have to pay to register bikes or face a fine.
The bill, introduced by Democratic New Jersey assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker of Essex, requires owners to register bikes with the Motor Vehicle Commission for $10 dollars a piece or face fines up to $100. A license plate would be issued and will have to be displayed when riding on public roads. Plates would be valid for two years.
John Boyle with the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is against the proposed bill.

Her office has an issue with bicyclists on the sidewalks,” he said. “We are asking our New Jersey members and people in the state of New Jersey to contact their state assembly representatives and ask them to oppose this legislation,” Boyle said.

Boyle says the enforcement will be almost impossible. He believes it would also be a drain on police resources and a financial burden to some.

Bikes are NOT getting license plates any time soon you fuckwit. It's one crazy ass democratic assemblywoman in a crazy ass democratic state lobbying for a BILL not a fucking LAW that WILL get shut down.

              Idiot.

enjoying that Non Moderator status are we Danny?

its the idea, and the people behind the idea. They are the ones making decisions that you have to live with. Stupid bills like this get entered when the things like this get attached to other bills.

                douchebag

She's not making any decisions. She's trying to PROPOSE a bill, one that will be taken to a VOTE where it will get thrown the fuck out. It's incredibly liberal woman against the rest of the assembly. Trust me when I say I will not be losing sleep over "license plates for bikes coming to a town near you."

Yes. If they are using anything but a residential side street then they need to pay (more $$ in light of the fact that they don't contribute via gas tax). :p

Kids ride on the sidewalk and don't impede traffic, so no biggie there ;)
