Oh and Farbin, just a comment man jeepers.Dub, why do we keep doing this, its getting more and more like beating my head against a wall every time.
Dirty:Why do you dissagree
Your arguments hinge on the assumption that human nature is not a variable. And that ALL people act Civilized, moral, and Just, ALL THE TIME. We know this is a fantasy land, and that someone who wants to infringe on your right to freedom of human endeavors, can and will do so if they are given the chance to do so.
For a start it was a difference of opinion, not an argument.
Of course it's variable and of course people dont always act in a civilized manner, but I dont assume that someone wants infringe upon my freedom in the first instance.
We are a violent species, the strong prey on the weak to gain money, power, stuff, or just plain for kicks. It has been going on for since the birth of our specis Why the fuck you think its going to end now.
Bloody hell, I thought I was cynical.
Taking away my ability to defend my self from those that would try infringe on my freedom and life, is just as criminal as those that would perpetrate such acts.
Again, I'm not arguing a ban on firearms. Sheesh.
You dont agree thats fine no biggie, you continue to live in the magic Forrest full of fluffy puppies and rainbows, happy land with your head in the sand with the "it will never happen to me attitude.
OK good for you.
I will stay here in reality.sigpicComment

dirtysix, not you didn't argue a ban, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that NZ gun laws are much more restrictive than they are here in the states.
So by saying, "Rather ours than yours" you're implying our laws are too lax.
Can you please juxtapose NZ vs US gun laws to give us a better idea of why you feel that way?Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Well then your opinion is based on a false reality, (a product of several generations expanding govts and public education run by said government)Originally posted by dirtysixFor a start it was a difference of opinion, not an argument.

And if you are walking around all the time assuming that no one will ever try to fuck with you. Then you are fool, you are just the target those that criminals are looking for.
Relying on the cops to protect you is also a folly and fools errand, you can only rely on 1 person to take care of you, and thats YOU. You want to put your life and those of you family in the hands of the police thats your prerogative.

how paranoid are you? ive seen some shady characters in my day but i know how to avoid situations/areas where actual violent crime exists. its not that i am naive that there aren't violent people out there (all humans are). i however don't have the false sense of security that a gun provides, and therefore am a bit more tactful about the places, people, and situations i choose to put myself in.
those who carry as a sort of self-preservation tactic.. are you constantly barraged by gun-toting criminals? do you go picking fights in troubled areas? if someone pulls a gun on you, are you really prepared to take a life? to live with that weight?
our society glamourizes the idea of protecting ourselves and our families from violence, utilizing the very instruments of that violence. i highly doubt you are in mortal danger. and if you are.. wise up, get up, and get out.
all those statistics and research really confirms what i have been thinking all along.. as a nation, we are in the business of guns, and god damnit, we'll go down shootin' to keep that business going. i'm out of here as soon as possible.Comment

I dont know how safe NZ is but in the States we have this. This is a video filmed by the group of people that beat and robbed a man in Richmond Va.
This is a relatively new video and occurrence. Im sure you will be able to find more about the story on the web. But anyway Id bet, that white kid, is at least carrying a knife with him now as he walks down a street at night alone.
If the criminal is going to commit a crime, he is not thinking about what laws he/she is about to break. To film it on top of the crime just goes to show the utter disrespect of the law and the society in general.
This is why I carry!

OK, i was being something of a smartarse with that comment but, putting aside gun law for a minute (and I think you are safe to assume our gun laws are more restrictive than yours) I think there is a fundamental and cultural difference in our approach to firearms and their use.dirtysix, not you didn't argue a ban, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that NZ gun laws are much more restrictive than they are here in the states.

I dont believe that we view firearms as defensive tools, rather as tools for use in either recreational or commercial activities ie; hunting or farming.
I think that our laws reflect that position.
I walk the streets without a firearm under the assumption that no one else is concealing a firearm (and for 99.999% of the time this assumption would be true). There are certain pockets of cities where this may not be the case but I dont frequent them and even then the odds would probably come down to 99/100 rather than 99.999/100.
The law reflects the majority of the populations viewpoint, including those that hunt and farm. Guns are still readily available to those who have a need or want through the licensing system so there are few restrictions to me owning a gun.

I am not angry at all, While I understand your position and the ( flawed) reasoning behind it.
I really fail to understand why so many continue to buy into to it lock stock and barrel, as its so counter common sense and reality its mind bogglingThe American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
